Fence Company Recommendations?

I want a fence installed in my yard and was wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable, reasonable company in the Southern Maryland area (besides Clinton Fence and Long Fence companies; I am aware of them already).

Thank You!

I thought you said reasonable? Clinton and Long are -EXPENSIVE!-

Try Thomas Fence over in the 7th District. 769-2274 About 15 years ago, they put in a 20x20 dog pound, and then when I moved 10 years ago, they moved the fence for me. You get a nice local business, without all the corporate advertising and overhead to pay for like a Long Fence.

Linear Fence is another small business with excellent quality. Think the guy's name is Sid Tucker... I wanted to use him, but at the time he was book 6 months out! (So you know he's good!)

thank you for the referrals. i would prefer a local small company to a bigger one. I figured someone would recommend them (Clinton/Long, so I just wanted you to know I am already aware of their existence, basically.

thanks again!

This summer, I priced Long Fence for a deck, and they were twice as much as anyone else in the local world, at roughly $38 sq ft for the maintenance free material, or $24 sq ft for treated lumber, which is more reasonable, but still overpriced in my opinion. That was after their "discount." That might be a fair price in Bethesda or Columbia, but this is St Mary's County.

well, who'd you end up using?

Still a work in progress. After working on the ump-teenth design on Sunday, I have some "better" ideas, and will be doing another redesign.

Got a lot of good info from vadeck dot com, but will probably build it myself with some help from friends.

Actually, a fence can be installed rather easily, if you have the time to do it. If you do it yourself, rent an Auger at one of the equipment rental places (next to CACI building on 235) and let the machine dig the hole for you. No need to dig with post-hole diggers - that's REAL labor!!! They'll even deliver and demo the equipment for you if you need the extra service. Aside from the holes, keeping it level is probably the next biggest challenge. But I still recommend Thomas Fence.

As for my deck, I'd be the gopher for my friend who knows what he's doing...

try Jones fencing, he has done every fence in our 'hood' and he's as trusting as any retired cop can be, just drive thru willow woods subdivision to sample his work, and at around $15+ per linear ft

Thomas Fence Company is excellent...

Ok, so I know that I'm replying to an old thread, but I feel compelled to spread the word about how great my experience with Thomas Fence was, and when I was doing my own research, I found them through this very post (originally dated 2002). Time to offer some updated info!

Joe Thomas is an exceptionally honest and straight-forward local businessman. While he doesn't have the advertising resources of his competitors, his company does beautiful work, and his bid came in the lowest of the 3 I interviewed. He was warm and helpful without being hard-sell. I especially appreciated that his approach never felt patronizing (despite the fact that I'm a younger female home owner). His crew was excellent; they were there on time, accomplished what they promised, offered good advice, and were respectful and easy to work with. In short, Thomas Fence provided outstanding service and a great fence. Highly recommended to all my neighbors here in SoMD.

We loved them. They fenced almost 3 acres for us and we were extremely happy with the total experience.

We had to have our back fence replaced after one of the winter storms finally knocked down a section of it. It was a tough call between Massey and McGee Fence, we liked them both, but finally went with Massey Fence and are very happy with their work a few months later.

Here's some other threads on this topic, in case someone stops by looking for more recommendations:

I used Linear Fence to build my fence, great price and they did a GREAT job. Everything was to my liking.

They did both a wrought iron fence for me and a horse fence.
