Fever (teething) question

watercolor

yeah yeah
I am assuming that fevers are associated with teething. What would be to high? Skeeter is sitting at 101.5/6 and I am not sure if I should go in- or just sit on it for a bit with the infant tylenol running through her. I just gave her the tylenol about 35 minutes ago... so I am just wondering.

But wait, there's more...
Keep in mind that while babies might get a fever from teething, they also get fevers from ear infections, which I think can be secondary to teething (among other things).

I'm not a doctor, just a dad, so please do what you're most comfortable with for you child. My little guy is teething right now an spiking some pretty high fevers too. Being that there are no other symptoms and I'm pretty confident that it's not a more serious issue, I give him tylenol and monitor the fever when it happens. If it doesn't go down in 12 hours or so, call your doctor. I hope it passes soon.

Yeap. Got that. But she shows NO signs of that. I have checked for smell, tugging, secretions, even used a qtip to check- and everything is a-ok, unless its an inner ear and I am not seeing that. She isnt irratable- she is just tired- and went right to sleep while daddy rocked her after getting her tylenol.

We are keeping and eye on her- at about 9 I am going to check her temp again- and see where it is sitting- if it has raised- off to a fun night in the ER- if not- I will check her throughout the night- and if it is still consistant with the beginning temp- I will call the dr- and get her in.

Just wanted to know if there was any other "mommy" (or daddy) advice out there. She had all the other classic symptoms of teething (ie: diahreah (sp), gnawing, drooling, wanting something cold, etc). Just wasnt sure if the actual fever was to "high" or if it just needed to be watched.

:yay: thanks! Glad to know someone else is dealing with it too! Not that it is great to see your little one a little down in the dumps, but it is nice to see that I am not alone on this. Thanks again!

101.5 is not a reason to go to the ER. Call the ER and explain what you are seeing. Most pediatricians have an answering service so you can get the doctors advice. Call it. I bet you they will tell you to relax, and let the child sleep.

101.5 is bad for an adult. 103 is bad for a kid. Don't panic, and use the phone before you waste your time in the ER.

oh no, I wasnt about to rush to the ER right now. I was just saying if it got higher than what it is- and considerably higher at that, then that is when we would trek in for the grueling hours of service. I didnt mean to imply I was going right now. I want to stay away from that place at all costs!

And for the lovely krapma giver of the oh so gracious note of

"You have the whole freaking internet at your disposal, yet you come here and ask these questions?"

I come here because I know that I will get vaild answers from people I know who have dealt with this, will slap me in the head and be like "its cool wc"- and will give me straight answers without having to read some horrible "at the worst occurance" shiat! Just like that damn "what to expect book" that is a horrible damn book.. but whichever.

Thanks anyway!

:yay: Good choice. Like I said, call the doctor or ER before you go.

Babies often get spiked fevers! It's completely normal momma. Run a luke warm bath and let her soak a minute. She'll scream because it will feel cold but she'll be better in no time! :huggy:

well, I called the emergency line through her peds office- cause her fever spiked up to 102.4 ..... told me to get motrin and do the alternating- and watch her for any other signs. To check her temp again- at her 3am feeding- and if its up - to go in- and if it stays the same till morning- to make an appt.

Thanks for all the feedback/advice.

No, it has been this way for the last 2 weeks- since she has been teething. She is allowed ya know.

Of course she is, and I do remember the teething days well. As soon as she cuts the first, be ready for the next. :jameo:

My son just went through 3 days of running a high fever (103.3). I thought it was teeting because he is cutting 4 teeth right now, but they say the teeting temperature won't go above 102. This all started Sunday morning and I took him to the doctors on Monday afternoon. They did a strep test and blood test. They said it was just a virus because his white blood cell count was way down. The lower the number the more he is fighting a virus. We just did the alternating of Tylenol and Motrin. His temp is normal now. Good luck. :flowers:

I always took the babies in for a temp. I never wanted to risk it. Go with your gut. If you don't like what you are seeing, trust yourself and get to the Dr. I hope the baby feels better today and it is just teething.

Also rub baby with wash cloth in circular patterns, this will also bring down a high fever fast

So- last night was brilliantly fun! We left the house with a baby that was puking and running a fever of 103.6- to the ER at 2:45 am. Got home finally about 8. She has an ear infection- and a weird rash all over her body. Red spots everywhere. I was told by various people and the nurse that it is because of her fever and such. It is crazy. Poor baby. This is crap. I hate that she is like this.

They kept asking me if she has been around any other kids- but she hasnt- she saw her one little friend for a few on the 4th- but he wasnt sick- and saw some of her cousins last saturday- and none of them were sick. SO- yeah. It was fun. I dont understand what takes SO FRICKIN LONG in an ER! *shakes head*

bah... Im tired....ah well... she is a good reason to be
