Filling a pool

I want to buy a 15' x 42" pool for when my family comes to visit this summer with kids. I'm on a well, would it be ok to fill a 3,200 gal capacity pool with it? If not, how should I get it filled? Thanks! :buddies:

Just to be on the Safe Side Stad, I'd call a Pool Company to come, and fill it. I really don't know the answer to this question. Enjoy the Pool, and your Company.

I don't know about the well, I would think it'd be ok if it's artesian.

Culline Pool Water can do it too. 301-769-3674

I'm guessing you have an in with the fire dept., they will do it occasionally as a favor.

Stad, here is a link to an older SOMD thread about this topic. It is dated so some of the prices have probably changed. Someone mentions filling a much larger pool with a garden hose off of a well though. Sounds like some of the delivery trucks carry 3000 gallon capacity, so maybe for speed have a 3000 gallon delivery and top it off with your hose. Good Luck, enjoy.

Not these days Merlin. Because it puts that Unit out of Service. It least that was the Case when I was in Fire & Rescue.

We have filled that size pool from our artesian well the last two summers. Just be sure to do it in spurts so that you don't burn your pump up. When we do it we space it out over 3-4 days. Run water for a an hour or 2, then turn off for an hour or so, etc.

I have filled my pool every year for 5 years now and have never had a problem with my well or pump. It is not hard. All you need is enough hose to reach your neighbors hose bib and know their vacation schedule.

Last year, my 25K gallon pool was filled with the hose over a few days time (I did NOT know). I would have freaked had I known. But everything was fine. I have a well also. The only other times (twice) I had it filled by a pool water company. They brought three 6K trucks to fill it the first time, and the hose was used to start (I think it cost about $900). It was fine then too, but again, over a couple days. Good luck.

Most well water pumps can put out between 500 - 1000 gallons per hour. As long as your pump does not cycle while filling, but runs constantly, you should be ok. That is just my experience for what it is worth...

Something to consider is the temprature of the water from the well and how long it will take to warm up.
When we put in our pool and had the water delivered, it went from truck to pool at 78 degrees. I was surprised by that and talking to the truck driver he said that they fill out of water towers and the water gets pretty warm during the summer sun exposure.
Food for thought.

When we fill ours, we run a hose from the front of the house faucet as well as the back of the house one to keep the well pump running.

Really? At least twice a week I see truck that says Pool Water on the side getting water from the hydrant near our office. Ive always wondered if it is free for them to get that water or they have to pay.

I have seen that as well, up on route 5 just north of the 5/235 split. I don't know if those hydrants are fed by towers or not, but I'm just telling you what our delivery guy told us and the water was warm enough to swim in from day one.

We've gotten pool water delivered by CL Pitcher and it was nice & warm also. Felt great jumping in and not freezing our butts off!
