New here, but I do know a thing or two about dentistry. I used to be an assistant. A few things could be going on...you said it's a baby tooth right? How old are you? They can do root canals on baby teeth. Is the filling silver or white? Silver fillings conduct heat and cold really quickly so that can cause major sensitivity. Another possibility is that since you're unable to chew on that side that the filling may be "high" meaning it's not flush w/ the rest of your bite, and this will cause the teeth around it sore also. Who is your Dr.? I've worked for a few. And i've had a very similar situation on one of my teeth. The cavity it's self never hurt, but once my Dr. fillied it, i couldn't let cold or hot touch it and it hurt to chew too. It was as simple as having the filling drilled out, a desensitzer put in, and then refilled. Haven't had a problem since. give it a few more days then go back if you're still in pain.

Wow...this is really long for someone who's NEVER posted before! Sorry!

It's a white filling. She was careful to grind it down enough. Almost obsessive about it. My bite feels fine, it's the actual tooth that hurts when pressure is applied during chewing (even soft things like gum) and when something cold touches is. I was thinking she may have just hit a nerve when drilling it out? But, I made a call and am going back.

Yeah, white fillings usually are pretty good as far as not causing sensitivity. The problem w/ mine is that it was a deep filling, and very close to the pulp (the bulk of your nerves in your tooth) and like i said all they had to do, was drill out the old, put on a desensitizer (just a lil' bit of liquid) and re-fill it. Hopefully it will be something as simple as that for you! Good luck!

And just incase you do need a root canal...don't worry! They're not half as bad as people make them out to be! You said your Dr. is a she? Well if it's who I'm thinking of, you're in great hands!!!!!! She's one of the best dentists around!
