Can someone tell me how B's "final drive belt" on his Harley 1200 Custom could just snap for no apparent reason. What causes that?

He wasn't moving...never got anywhere...just started it up and snap.:ohwell:

Guess we won't be taking the bike tonight. :bawl:

When was the last time he checked the tension?? Belt may have been too loose.

OOPS, this was BadBob..

The final drive belt on the Harley is made of the same stuff that bulletproof vests are made of. Kevlar. If your bike is a custom it may not be using a stock Harley belt. I had over 100,000 miles on my bike and the belt got a hole in it from a stone at about 45,000 and never broke. I have seen the teeth stripped off the belts but never one that snapped., In fact you cant cut one off with a knife , you need a hack saw.

The funniest thing I have ever seen in the Harley shop was that so called emergency belt they sell. Would sure love to sit and watch someone trying to get that on, on the side of the road.

Sounds like a bad belt, never heard one go snap for no obvious reason...

No worries. Bike is still under warranty and will go to All American to be fixed. He's busy most of the week and won't be able to ride anyway. Dealer said the same thing...MUST be a defective belt...bike has just over 2000 miles on it and was JUST serviced.
