Fine Dining in Waldorf

Just lucky (?) I guess. Funny thing, right before Christmas I went out with the girls and we stopped at Chili's in Waldorf for lunch, and they were soooo slow we were comped for it. But at least we eventually got food that was edible.

Same here, but I didn't complain or get free food. I gave ,y waitress some slack because he as super busy.

Yes, we did go there and it was not stellar. Another one for the 'never to return to' list.

That was before we went to DC to see a show.

Different strokes I guess for taste in food but I've always thought it was good. The meats are excellent. The spiced tea is great. A touch on the pricey side for what it is but still a nice treat. The lack of advertising and the location are their biggest issues. This is what I preach to the owner. The menu/service would thrive in a more suitable and visible location. No doubt in my mind. She's killing her business by being where she is.

I wish her well. It's way off my radar.

But I guess coming through there on occasion, I could see the changes taking place. And of course, I heard no end of complaining about it from my folks.

But wow! I'm in Charles County still, but want to go further south into St. Mary's to create some separation.

Don't bother, gentrification in SE DC and now the surrounding portions of PG is pushing the demand for low income housing into St. Mary's - not sure about Calvert.
It's driving up the "Cash" Cost of rent. River Bay wants in excess of $1300 a month, but will pay a deputy to live there (so far no takers).

It's also a known fact that while people in SMC have their head up their arse, there is gang activity in SMC. People have long been sending kids to live with family in SMC to get them out of PG only to have the problem follow them down the highway.

The road ends here. Can't go any further and the laws of the state of Maryland limit severely what the local government and schools can do.

BTW, there is also a significant number of "undocumented" people in SMC.

Not sure about living with relatives as much as using the address or any address that works. Awhile back, there was some commotion about that topic in the Charles County schools, seems to have died out rather quickly though. Same, same when the fed found out many of their higher paid employees had bogus degrees. When they correlated skin color to probable outcome.....

That whole area was fairly nice in those days. My first apartment was in St. Charles, and it wasn't a bad place then in 1980. It was in the older section past the lake and around the shopping center where Safeway is. "Garden aparmtments on Wedgewood place. The apartments were fairly new at that time. There used to be a movie theatre in that shopping center later that decade. Also, there was a McElhenney's (spelling?) in there.

About 8 years later, I lived in the new section of St. Charles, (behind where the Mall is now) on Night Heron Court. Again, "garden apartments" which were really 4 units in one building, each with their own little fenced patio entrance. They were brand new, also.

It was nice back then. My ex's brother and his family lived there. We spent a lot of time at their house. There was always some activity going on for the kids. The pools were really nice. I used to like to go to the theater in Smallwood. We had considered moving there at one time, but ended up in St. Mary's. I'm glad we did.

This brought back memories. I used to leave the base in the 70's to go to Cleveland Ohio. There was a light at the base on 235. I would cut across Mattawoman-Beantown road which was one lane in each direction. It was concrete with large cracks and grass growing out of the cracks. It would flood in places up to probably 4" deep during a storm. The second light I hit was one in Clinton. There were no lights in Breezewood and the next traffic light was about a mile away from my Mom's house in Bedford, Ohio.

I'm not so sure about that. I saw Top Gun there with my then boyfriend. It was not a second-run movie in 1986.

Good info, thanks much. I’ve only peripherally been exposed to the cultural and demographic shifts here through the through the parents.

Sad to witness I’d guess. Being from the Hughesville area, we spent a lot of time in Waldorf just as soon as we got our license. I’m sure many here must remember cruising the strip at Shoppers World. I graduated high school in 1982 and then went off to college and didn’t come back much until recently.

Worst thing we had back then was a couple of knuckleheads drinking too much muscle beer and mouthing off a bit and fighting in the parking lot. How times change. I went to that mall to do some Christmas shopping. NEVER AGAIN.

I'm not sure about that either, maybe towards the end of it being open. I saw lots of new releases, hit movies there too. I vividly remember taking my son (who was 4 at the time) to the opening of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The line was around the building and out into the parking lot. You could barely walk thru the lobby. I saw The Accused there too, definately not a second run movie. I can't remember all of the others. I think it may have turned into the dollar movie when the theater at the mall opened (I'm thinking in 91 or 92). It was closer to go to the movies, dinner, etc. in Waldorf than LP, I lived in Charlotte Hall at the time.

We're talking about the shopping center in the area of St Charles Parkway and St Thomas Drive right? The shopping center at the end of Post Office Road?
