FIOS in Calvert Co.

Just going along with the other thread about Charles...

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a rollout of FIOS in Calvert? Last thing I saw was a statement from a Verizon rep that 'sometime in 2008' but I later spoke to some Verizon techies who said there was some problems with the Cable TV contracts in Calvert that were somewhat monopolistic such that FIOS couldn't legally come into some areas (not entirely sure about that).

Just curious if anyone has heard anything official about a possible rollout.

FWIW I also heard the DOCIS 3.0 rollout for Comcast is delayed for Calvert due to some technical issues (as of about 2 months ago).

Can you ping me now? Good
Go read the technology and internet forum here or whatever its called.. dont think FIOS will be down that way at least until next year sometime that i read, if that Computers, Technology, & the Internet - Southern Maryland Community Forums

Couple of guys in the main FIOS thread there work for verizon

Nothing planned for this year in Calvert. Our plans for 2010 won't be finished till late August/September. I should know by then if Calvert is scheduled for FiOS next year.

I wrote to the Calvert commissioners in June 2007 asking what the hold up was and why Calvert County with all it's prosperity is so behind the times regarding FiOS. It was disheartening to see Charles county and St. Mary's either beginning installation or preparing for it.

Well....TWO YEARS later I get a letter back from the commissioners regarding Verizon FiOS. They have, as of June 23rd 2009, contacted Joseph J. Daniels of Verizon Maryland Inc. asking them to stated their intent for deploying FiOS to Calvert County.

So....hopefully the two year period it took for the county to request this service is not an indication of a lengthy drawn out installation/availabilty of services to Cavlert County.

I know there are Verizon haters out there, but to have a choice for cable and internet service will be worth it.

Now if we could only the the crappy movie theater to make some major improvements! :howdy:

Pfft! By the time Calvert gets FIOS, they'll be some different, newer technology anyway that will make it obsolete.

i dont forsee st marys getting fios until at least 2011 if not later than that

Last I heard there weren't even plans. I thought I had heard something about fiber being laid but when I talked to Verizon they said there were no plans. Other people have siad that cost to install fiber is to high when compared to the customer base.

Why do people think their county government has any control over Verizon's business decisions? The cable companiies have franchise contracts with the counties and even then the government has little if any control over what the cable company does.
