2003. Matt won the Nascar Championship without ever winning a race. That brought about the playoffs for the Top 10 in points. A few years later it was tweaked with the Junior Rule to the Top 12.
If he got the most points with no win then he is the champ..and he drove for one of the high dollar teams and by that time all the little cry babies started driving and crying and now you have the dumb segment racing

I dont watch that crap show anymore its a joke of what it used to be...segment race 3 different people win the race but the last winner wins the whole race what kind of BS is that
No doubt NASCAR the organization has done all they can to alienate their traditional fan base, so screw the organization. There's even a potential boycott coming over their stupid woke policies.

I watch because I do like the drivers, at least some, and curse some others. I root for the underdogs also, the little guys who win despite NASCAR's stupidity. They are still the best drivers in the world no matter how bad NASCAR screws up the format, so I don't hold it against the drivers, and they are all that matters to me. Go RFK!

Three years ago Matt Crafton won the truck championship without winning a race all year. NASCAR ate crow over that! Ryan Newman almost did it in cup in his penultimate season with RCR but still finished second. First loser still pays pretty good!💰

I do not know about the best drivers in the world when all they do for 90% of the races is go around in circles....I now watch F1 when I can and some of the trans am series, as you know all of those races are on road courses where it takes talent to drive and is far more exciting then watching someone go around in circles for 3 hours

Trackhouse Racing is finalizing a deal to bring Australian Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen to NASCAR full time starting in 2024, according to a person familiar with the matter, boosting the sport’s international growth profile. The 34-year-old New Zealander made headlines last month when he became the first person to win in their debut in the NASCAR Cup Series in 60 years when he took first at the Chicago Street Race.
He's a road course Ace, and he's driving at the Indy road course this weekend.
