If they'd have filed the proper paperwork, the nanny state would not have needed to nanny them.Would have been better to watch that, than the crap they call fireworks in Solomons... chalk another one up for the oppressive nanny state

Well, it's not like they changed the date lately. State Fire Marshall only requested a 10 day notice.

I agree, in my neighborhood, the people that live in the houses on the water go all out with fireworks, it's almost like a competition to see who has the better display and it gets better every year. The beach gets packed with people and it lasts several hours. Not only that we can see the fireworks from the North Beach area and the eastern shore. I'd rather watch this than go anywhere else.
That rule changed several years ago. Ground based fireworks are allowed. Haven't you noticed the fireworks stands on the side of the road or the displays set up in WalMart and Food Lion. Granted, most of the cool stuff is still illegal, but there's more than sparklers.I think its stupid that anything but sparklers are illegal in maryland.

Only "Fireworks are regulated.
(3) "Fireworks" does not include:
(i) toy pistols, toy canes, toy guns, or other devices that use paper caps that contain 0.25 grains or less of explosive composition if the devices are constructed so that a hand cannot touch the cap when the cap is in place for use;
(ii) toy pistol paper caps that contain less than 0.20 grains of explosive composition;
(iii) sparklers that do not contain chlorates or perchlorates;
(iv) ground-based sparkling devices that are nonaerial and nonexplosive, and are labeled in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission;
(v) paper wrapped snappers that contain less than 0.03 grains of explosive composition; or
(vi) ash-producing pellets known as "snakes" that do not contain mercury and are not regulated by the U. S. Department of Transportation.

Sounds simple enough to me. A licensed fireworks operator would have the insurance on file and it'd just be a matter of submitting the paperwork in time.Its not that easy....
