First Communion attire?

My two youngest children are having their First Holy Communion next week. I have a dress on the way for my daughter but I am wondering what most boy's wear? I have heard everything from shirt w/ tie and dress slacks to a suit or tuxedo and even the solid white communion suit.

What did your son wear for his First Communion? Also do I need to get my daughter a veil too?

A pic of her dress is attached.

My son wore a suit I got from like JCPenney or something. Dress pants & jacket, nice shirt and a tie.

My daughters did wear veils. I think I got the veil from JCPenney or Belk for my youngest one. I put them away for them to give to their daughters if they so choose.

The dress is very pretty!

Found the PERFECT suit for him.

If a suit is not what you are looking for, try one of these outfits.

way back in the day when my brother & I made 1st communion I remember wearing a very light pink dress & he just wore slacks & a button up shirt & that was at St. Michael's! No veil for me.

Who knows these days!

The veil isn't necessary, some girls have them and some don't.

Slacks/shirt/tie is acceptable but the jacket would be preferable, the boys pretty much run the gamut although i've never seen one in a tux and rarely do you see one in a white suit anymore.

Traditionally the girl does wear a veil and the boy would wear a white shirt and tie with black or navy slacks. However, some congregations are less traditional than others. Back in my day, we were told not to bother wearing a white dress that we'd never wear again and it was suggested that we choose a dress that would also be appropriate for Easter, so we could wear it at least twice. We did wear a veil though.

Also, children who are not receiving communion with the rest of the class for some reason, don't generally go all out with the communion outfit.

Kid #2 will be receiving first communion in about a month and he'll be wearing black slacks, white shirt and tie. We got a catalog from his CCD class a couple of weeks ago that had "communion ties" in it, among other things like mass books, rosaries, veils, etc. I'm gonna pass on those, most likely and just buy some generic tie for him....assuming I don't still have the one his older brother wore.

The girls at our church wear veils. If I were you, I'd ask the teacher what is expected.

Thank you everyone for your input. I think I will go with a jacket, slacks, shirt and tie. I want him to look nice, as his sister will be all dressed up, but I also would like to have at least one of them end up with something they might be able to wear again.

My son said that under no circumstances would he wear the white communion suit.:killingme
