First Day of Kindergarten

I always took my kids to school on the first day, I wanted them to know that I support them and that even though I am not there I am always with them.:smoochy:

Yeah, okay.
I walked him to his classroom, gave him a hug, a smooch, and told him I'd see him when he got off the bus

I was thinking I would let her get on the bus (she knows other kids getting on the same bus), and then just meet the bus at the school and walk her to her room. I don't want to shelter her, but she is only meeting the teacher for a little bit the day before and I'm not sure she will know anyone in her class.

I KNOW she will be fine in a couple of days after she gets used to the teacher and makes friends, but was kind of worried on the first day.

Yes, this is my first child to go to school....

I have 4 kids going to school this year and will walk everyone of them to their classroom:) Including a kindergartener

I waited with him for the bus at his daycare. He broke down before I did. :frown: After I pulled him back together and he loaded the bus I proceeded to breakdown. :frown: I watched the bus pull out onto Route 4 and had to stop myself from following the bus driver to make sure he was careful.

But ... when he got off the bus in the afternoon and said he had a great day I was better and knew it was all going to be okay!

Nope I didn't. All 3 of mine road the bus the first day, they were all excited to ride it. I figured if I went with them to school they would probably have a harder time seperating there.

I took my oldest daughter her first day but I let my youngest daughter ride the bus. Both of them were very excited to go to school, so they were okay, the only tears shed were mine.

No, I didn't take my son to school on the first day of Kindergarten, but that was because he was looking so forward to riding the bus like all the other big kids. His daycare provider invited all the parents to join her at the bus stop when she put them on the bus, so that's what I did. I gave him a hug and he excitedly ran up the bus steps, and never once looked back!

I do understand parents who cry, or follow their kids bus along to the school, but that wasn't the case for me. I was excited for him to take the next step, and his year of kindergarten was wonderful.

Good luck to you and your child - hope they have a great year!

Nope. Son was first, and was a walker (from his day care provider's house). He wanted to walk with the other kids. Daughter wanted to ride the bus with big Brother when it was her turn.

I took mine for orientation and made sure she knew where her class was and what her teacher looked like.

I pinned her name and class info to her and she went to and from on the bus. She'd have been upset if she didn't get to do it herself.

I've also learned that on the first day the school will have a system to get back to the correct buses. In the past they've put a wrist band with the bus number as they get of the bus.

:yeahthat: I plan on doing the same with the youngest in a few weeks but he will have his big brother with him on the bus. But he's on his own once he gets to school as big brother is going to a different one this year. I'm sure he will do fine.

I've been trying to decide on this. He went to Pre-K last year and rode the bus so I wasn't sure if it was such a big deal to him. He'd probably ride the bus. I'd rather take him to school. Should I just let him choose?

Probably going to take both to school on the first day but my son with have his big sister for the ride home on the bus. I'm sure she will make sure he is on the bus with her.

Does anyone know if the school schedule is out? I checked the SMCPS website and the HES site and there's nothing. :ohwell:
