Hi everyone :howdy:

Is there any type of program in the area that will give a discount on spay/neutering feral barn cats?

Thanks for any info!

Feral cats are not capable of becoming pets. Do the right thing and make sure they do not live. Even if you spay or neuter they are still killing machines, killing wildlife 24/7/365

I do not think barn cats are really feral cats. The feral cats on the base look like small tigers and are just as dangerous

Are you kidding me! If it can't become an inside pet, KILL it? :eyebrow: These are barn cats and get fed catfood twice a day everyday! I don't know what world you live in but feral cats CAN become inside pets! My mother has a feral cat that was trapped on Pax River Base as a kitten years ago and is quite happy to live with her and her two dogs. My sister also has 3 previously feral cats in her home with her other 2 indoor cats and 2 dogs.

I guess I need to be more descriptive. We recently moved our horses to a new farm last week that has about 20 - 30 barn cats with several kittens. We would like to trap said cats, have them fixed, and release them back to the barns. We are not looking to place them in homes, (unless some kittens can be placed) we would like to get the population fixed so they don't keep inbreeding and reproducing! Is there a program to allow us to do this on a budget and not have to pay full price? :howdy:

as akitten you can domesticate a tiger.

the cats you speak of probally still have domestic cat coloring? and certainly you can break a wild cat just like you break a wild horse or an unruly domestic horse it just takes more effort.

and your point is? not trying to be offensive or combative! :howdy: we just want to stop the barn cats from breeding on the farm! nothing more than that! It's a HUGE population that if we can get a discount or something to get them all fixed would be great!

If you have a vet for horses, shouldn't that vet advise on where to go for help?

He!!, I'd think the horse community would have solutions to this already.
I'm just sayin'

Cats can go from domesticated to feral in very little time.. The cute little tabby someone cuddles with in their bed can be feral in just a matter of weeks if n ot days. They would still look the same, but if you tried to snuggle them I think you'd find a major difference. When Pease AFB closed the base was overrun with feral cats.. a lot of owners when they moved, just opened their doors and let their cats loose. Some stories came out about some feral cats being declawed and yet still survived..

Pigs, if I remember correctly, take this to an extreme. A domestic pig goes feral almost as soon as the gate slaps him in the butt.. tusks start to develop, the hair gets coarser etc etc..

Exactly! My great grandma was savagly attacked by 3 feral cats while on her way to church. She was headed to midnight mass in her motorized wheel chair, when out of nowhere she was mauled. They rushed her to the hospital but it was to late by the time they got her there.

Hi, I saw a group at the SMC fireworks that does just that. They're called Feral Cat Rescue. I think they are associated with St. Mary's Animal Welfare League (SMAWL), but I'm not sure. I didn't get thier flyer, so I can only lead you there.

Good luck ( and you ARE doing the right thing, don't listen to those creul people : ) )

I'm not sure if they can help but they may be able to provide assistance, information or be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi there

I have been spaying/neutering barn cats and ferals for about 6 years. The Well Pet Clinic in Lexington Park will work with you as so will Lucky Ones and the Waldorf Well Pet Clinic. These places, especially since you are taking care of and want to do the right thing for the cats and want them back will more then likely work with you on the cost. On the average it is about $25 to $35.00 for a mle cat and $30.00 to $60.00 for a female depending on age and etc. I have all of the contact info and etc. I have also been working with the new rescue group FCR mentioned in one of the postings and they are doing what they can but it is hard and takes alot of time to get grants and etc to try and cover the cost to alter all of the cat. I am almost 100% positive that any of the three low cost clinics I mentioned above would work with you on cost since you are doing the right thing. PM if you want more info or to discuss your needs and etc. Oh and if you have not realized it already expect alot of negative and assanine posts and feedback from this post but please do not let that discourage you!

Lucky Ones should be able to point you in the right direction. I also know there is a place that specifically works with the feral cats. I'll have to see if I can find that info out for you. Oh, Lucky Ones I think is in Charlotte Hall.

Lucky Ones, over in Charlotte Hall, has a feral they were never able to home. She is a tabby and comes and goes as she pleases. She was friendly to me when I was there but I was warned, without a warning she'll just bit.

They will work with ya! Great people over there! :yay:

Yep she is doing the right thing, she inherited a bunch of cats and now wants to do right by them. I don't see how anyone can disagree with it. Good for you Loper! :huggy:
