If you have a vet for horses, shouldn't that vet advise on where to go for help?

He!!, I'd think the horse community would have solutions to this already.
I'm just sayin'

I hadn't talked to our horse vet yet, and he might have a suggestion. I just thought I would ask if anyone knew of anything already out there to help. :howdy: Have to say I absolutely LOVE your avatar pic!!!! :yay:

Hi, I saw a group at the SMC fireworks that does just that. They're called Feral Cat Rescue. I think they are associated with St. Mary's Animal Welfare League (SMAWL), but I'm not sure. I didn't get thier flyer, so I can only lead you there.

Good luck ( and you ARE doing the right thing, don't listen to those creul people : ) )

:howdy: Thanks slomo! I'm looking into a couple places now and will see what I can find out.

Hi there

I have been spaying/neutering barn cats and ferals for about 6 years. The Well Pet Clinic in Lexington Park will work with you as so will Lucky Ones and the Waldorf Well Pet Clinic. These places, especially since you are taking care of and want to do the right thing for the cats and want them back will more then likely work with you on the cost. On the average it is about $25 to $35.00 for a mle cat and $30.00 to $60.00 for a female depending on age and etc. I have all of the contact info and etc. I have also been working with the new rescue group FCR mentioned in one of the postings and they are doing what they can but it is hard and takes alot of time to get grants and etc to try and cover the cost to alter all of the cat. I am almost 100% positive that any of the three low cost clinics I mentioned above would work with you on cost since you are doing the right thing. PM if you want more info or to discuss your needs and etc. Oh and if you have not realized it already expect alot of negative and assanine posts and feedback from this post but please do not let that discourage you!

:howdy: Thanks Animals4Life!
Would it be better to trap the males first? Then maybe the kittens? and move onto the females over the next couple of months? What do you think?

Lucky Ones should be able to point you in the right direction. I also know there is a place that specifically works with the feral cats. I'll have to see if I can find that info out for you. Oh, Lucky Ones I think is in Charlotte Hall.

:howdy: SouthernMdRocks :huggy:
Whatever info you can find would be great! I'm calling around to a couple different places at the moment to see what I can find out! :jameo:

Lucky Ones, over in Charlotte Hall, has a feral they were never able to home. She is a tabby and comes and goes as she pleases. She was friendly to me when I was there but I was warned, without a warning she'll just bit.

They will work with ya! Great people over there! :yay:

:howdy: Thanks Pandora! I'm checking into them as well. :yay:

Yep she is doing the right thing, she inherited a bunch of cats and now wants to do right by them. I don't see how anyone can disagree with it. Good for you Loper! :huggy:

Fixing Feral cats 07-05-2007 08:41 AM Just kill the damn cats. Not like there isn't a gazillion of them on this planet.

Unsigned of course

To my red karma giver:

And if the cats were fixed there wouldn't be a gazillion of them out there!
There are also a "gazillion" idiot people out there that should be fixed so they can't breed, I suspect your parents are two of them!

Feral cats are not capable of becoming pets. Do the right thing and make sure they do not live. Even if you spay or neuter they are still killing machines, killing wildlife 24/7/365

Yeah, here is pictures of a sad case of of a feral cat NOT being domesticated. :killingme Insert any sarcasm here! Tell me what about feral cats! Also some pics of a rescued kitten and one that is still a feral barn cat/kitten.

Hi everyone :howdy:

Is there any type of program in the area that will give a discount on spay/neutering feral barn cats?

Thanks for any info!

There's also a group called "Friends of Felines" located in St. Leonard and they specialize in ferals. phone number is 410-495-7839. I've rec'd alot of good advice from them re trapping, low fee spay/neuter, for barn cats.

spay/neuter is the best solution and you're truly doing the right thing. Good luck!

I tried a head count last night and another this evening. The one's I could see were about 16 kittens and 13 adults from tonight. I counted 15 kittens last night and 11 adults and one HUGE racoon. :lmao: The racoon was quite brazen and could care less that we were right there, but showed no signs of being rabid or anything and the cats could care less about it eating the cat food put out.
I talked to some folks at the Well Pet Clinic and they gave me the prices they have, 55 for fixing females and 35 for males. Of course adult cat wise I know there are more females than males. The males seem to have quite the harems. :lmao:

Nice BIG dude!! Beautiful face..with a few ticks...

Loper..count me in for the trapping an I can help you set up after care cages... I was with the feral cat group here in Calvert....

We can use the big coyote cage to trap a lot of the cats at once.

When can you get apointments at Clinic?

No kidding, kiddies... If you're dealing with feral cats make sure your shots are up to date and you are wearing thick leather gauntlet-style gloves.

I'm not a big cat lover, but I applaud your love for animals. (And every farm needs some meowsers to keep the rodent population down.)

But feral cats are a hotbed of biological nasties. Please play safe.

My neighborhood dumpster cats (x3) walk me from my car to my door..Secret Service style. :yay:

Only costs a bit of kitty food per week. (Or they'll kill me.... so it's a good trade.)

I would do the females first if I were you. It only takes 1 male to breed the gals, so even if you neuter 9 out of 10 males you'll still get kittens. Controlling the females first would give you the quickest results. Good luck! :howdy:
