Flag ordered to half staff

This is to advise you that Governor Martin O'Malley has ordered the Maryland State Flag flown at half staff immediately. This is in memory of Captain Donald Hubbel, a firefighter with the Baltimore City Fire Department, who died in the line of duty on February 1, 2008. Flags should remain lowered until sunset on the day of his funeral.

MOM orders the flag be lowered more than anyone. I bet it'll be ordered to half staff for the next dog or cat that gets run over by a Ford pickup truck. :lmao:

You're actually complaining about recognizing a firefighter who died in the line of duty? You are equating his death to a cat getting run over? You think this is funny?

WTF?

No I'm not equating the death of a firefighter to a death of a cat.

I am simply saying it seems like MoM ordered the flag to half staff every week for something. YES, a firefighter deserves to be honored this way. :patriot: But even you must admit our flag stands at half staff more often than not.

Well, he was a Capt of a Baltimore Fire Department, not the state of MD fire dept.. sounds like something the Mayor of Baltimore should have ordered not the Governor.

MOM has the flag lowered practically every week. It would be easier if he could just tell us what days to put it all the way up.

Flag wouldn't stand at half staff for a Charles County fireman. We already know what MoM thinks of us by all these budget cuts.

Well, maybe he would would. He lowers the flag for everything else.

I'm at the Census, and I swear, that flag is at half staff almost every single day. I'm not sure I remember it ever being all the way up in the last year.

There oughta be some sort of protocall for flag lowerings. Too often and it loses all meaning. Like saying tarts over and over again.

Too bad they elected to post this picture. Everyone will be discussing that at home workout that caused the heart attack.

Remember Sgt Phil Esterhaus from Hill Street Blues who died while in the saddle?

I think only the president and the governor can order flags flown at half staff.
I think your right. It has lost a lot of it's meaning.

It was the duty of the Mayor of Baltimore to order the flags in Baltimore to be flown at half staff. Although I have no problem with lowering the Maryland flag by order of the Governor , there should be some protocol established. Last week it was a Maryland State Police officer. What happens if a member of the Highway department get hit by a car.

I dont know if this Firefighters death was ruled Line of Duty or not it is a pretty fine line when it comes to heart attacks because Firefighters put their hearts at such risk in the job they do. It really doesnt matter, IMO the flags should have been lowered in Baltimore and not the State.
