FLU IS RUNNING RAMPANT

My best friend went in a Urgent Care last night. He somehow slammed a car door on his thumb. Almost passed out from the pain. Lots of blood under the thumb nail. Lots of pressure from the swelling and blood that had no place to go.

He went to the Urgent Care ( UC ) in Charlotte Hall. He said people were coughing all over the place. He thought it was Covid infections. Nope. All FLU cases he was told. The UC there had over 50 cases of the flu in one day by 6:00PM he was told.

Flu shots? Well, I read that the flu shot for 2019/2020 season was only 47% effective. He doesn't know how much a 47% or less flu shot will help with the current flu strain. I don't know about the effectiveness of last season or this season so far. I told him the flu shot is a craps shoot. He now has a hole through his thumb. He said the African American "Nurse Practitioner" had a loose mask which was always falling off. He said it was like something out of a Seinfeld TV show. He told me after drilling a hole with what looked like a Soldering Iron released some pressure. But, he said he still has immense pressure toward the tip of his thumb.

The most interesting part was his paperwork. He didn't read it. But, his wife did. It said "the patient was seen today for an injury on his right toe of his foot". LOL! It should have been the right hand thumb. I told him, well, at least they got the right side correct.

He said everyone was wearing masks. However, some had loose masks. He heard one patient had a 103 degree temperature. It sounds like that patient should have been at a ER and not an Urgent Care.

Back in august I went to the urgent care by Cracker Barrel after a fall. I heard a pop so I had a feeling I broke something. Urgent care took X-rays and confirmed I did in fact break my leg just above my ankle. Told me it was my tibia bone, discharge paper worked stated the same. Fast forward a couple of days. Got in to see ortho doctor. He viewed x ray disc I was provided upon discharge from urgent care. Turns out it wasn’t my tibia bone, it was my fibula bone. Good news for me as far as healing and not needing surgery goes. There are only 2 bones down there and the urgent care doc still got it wrong. It would be difficult for me to have any confidence in them with anything major.

103 degree temperature isn't enough by itself to warrant going to the doctor, certainly not the ER. Sounds like you might be one of the hypocondriacs that clog up the ER. If the fever was prolonged and doesn't come down at all with tylenol/ibuprofen then maybe.

I started having pain in shoulder and hip joints that progressed to the point that I couldn't raise my arms at all (T-Rex syndrome..) and was requiring a cane and, finally a walker to get around. Went to Urgent Care on Buck Hewitt Rd. They ran a bunch of blood tests and were convinced I had lyme disease. The tests all came back negative..they said it can go undetected and ran them again. Pain gets worse. They prescribe copious quantities of ocycotin and test yet again for lyme. I'm to the point where I'm almost completely crippled , the pain killers aren't doing sheit, and the missus takes things in to her own hands and starts researching options. Found a highly regarded rheumatic disease specialist outfit up north of Annapolis and off we go.

Within literally 15 minutes s specialist doc at the Annapolis outfit had diagnosed that I had a fairly rare and poorly understood rheumatic joint disease, told me to knock off the pain killers, and prescribed a modified time-release cousin of prednisone. Within literally a few days I was able to get around without a cane, use my arms etc.

About 6 weeks ago, I developed a fever of 101 .... body aches and a cough I mitigated the fever ... and toughed it out, I still occationally cough some crap up but the illness passed

my wife and daughter were at the Urgent care twice ..
2 negative covid testes the 2nd time the doctor just declared they had covid ' because symptoms '

The other thing to keep in mind is that those infrared ear or forehead thermometers are notoriously inaccurate. If you are running a temp you should use an actual under-the-tongue thermometer to verify temp.
