103 degree temperature
Highest temp I ever had measured at the ER was in January 1993 when I had viral pneumonia the 1st time: 104.7F.
Doc didn't believe what he saw on the admitting sheet and took it again: 104.7F.
That was after I'd been taking Aspirin and Tylenol to combat the fever.

Doc was astonished, as I had walked in under my own power and was having a lucid conversation.
He said the last time an adult patient presented with that high a fever, they were strapped to a gurney, convulsing.
He also told me that a small percentage of adults maintain an infant's ability to withstand high than normal body temperatures.

Got it again a year later, same admitting nurse.
She complimented me for coming in with just a 103.5F fever.

CDC says flu in Maryland is currently "minimal", not rampant.

Oct 5 was day one of a sore throat, but my voice was fine. Day 2 swallowing was very painful and continued into day 3. Day 4 I lost my voice, had a fever, and felt awful all over. During the first few days I did 2 Covid rapid home tests of different manufacturers and both tests were negative. Fast forward to day 11 and my sinuses were so painful I couldn't take it anymore so went to Patient First and was told my symptoms sounded like Covid so they did a PCR test. Day 12 I was notified I was positive for Covid. Today is day 23 and I still feel bad and have not fully recovered. I feel about 60% recovered and my breathing is still labored, headache remains, some dizziness, my voice is still hoarse, and my appetite has not returned. Covid is the primary diagnoses at the public school I work at, not the flu.

T-Bone and Heather said this morning that practically every school kid on the east coast is out with flu.

Maryland says moderate now, but I bet that takes into account mostly rural areas. DC is listed as Very High and we are closer to them than most of Maryland. Even last week I was hearing that the state, the entire state, supposedly had no pediatric ICU beds available almost entirely due to flu/rsv.

Back in the day people just stayed home and dealt with their being sick, and family/parents cared for the kids that got sick. Now it seems that everyone needs, wants, to be coddled by anyone within the for profit medical industry rather than taking personal responsibility for themselves. My how well the fear porn propaganda has worked over the years.

Flu may only be "Moderate" but that RSV is tearing people up. Almost every family I know has at least one down with that crap.
The auto accident in front of Dollar General on 235 sent a driver to St. Mary's by ambulance and they were turned away from emergency - they said they were too busy.

People have been trained that having any symptoms or fevers may lead to their own or somebody else's being hospitalized or death. So, instead of treating at home first to see if they get better they just go straight to the hospital. With many doctor's offices refusing to see actual sick people in person now, urgent care and ER are overwhelmed.

In some cases this is true however there are benefits to seeing a medical professional to find out via testing WHAT you have. If you are early enough in the illness there may be a medication you can use to lessen/shorten the suffering. Who doesn't want the option to suffer LESS? The old-fashioned way of just suffering isn't always the smartest way to handle an illness, but I have been guilty of just that the past.

Suffer less? Yeah, it used to be called grandma's homemade chicken soup.

To say one could suffer less, or to have one say they suffered less, is simply a hypothesis and, to me, falls under presumption, innuendo, speculation and supposition since there is no "test" or long term study to suggest otherwise. And otherwise falls under the placebo effect.

Also, I wonder if people at all understand that the same information taught to, and available for, medical professionals, is available everywhere on the internet today hosted by very reliable and respected organizations. Back in the day, people did not run to see any medical professional for any little problem. People understood what to be watchful for when someone came down with being sick. Monitor temp and give plenty of fluids, if things were perceived to be getting worse, or not improving, for a period of time, then they would seek medical help.

We lost our resiliency and independence to self care long ago.

Plus you can't get an appointment within a day anymore if you or your child is sick. Urgent Cares started out for weekends and evening hours.
