Food Stamp Question

A family of four gets right around 600 and you said a family of 7 so maybe a little less than twice that??? Only if they have absolutely no income though as it would be reduced by quite a bit to balance income. Maybe they go to the food pantry as well??? Or maybe they do extreme couponing??

There is a family I know of that is so good at couponing they only end up paying for fresh meat, fruits, and vegetables - if its boxed, canned, frozen or in a carton they've got it covered.

before her was another sec 8 mom... and her kid... she was getting her act together.. got a job.. AND THEY TOOK HER HOUSING MONEY AWAY.... WTF..
she was only working at mcd's :eyebrow:

The current system truly penalizes someone trying to get back on their feet. Along with taking away her housing they probably cut back on food stamp benefits as well. No way someone working at McD's, who might be lucky to get 20 hours a week, would be able to compensate for that loss.

Surely you jest ...
yes, some income.

and does anyone that receives benefits tell the truth to social services? I don't think so, because no ever seems to check to see how many people are crammed up into one section eight house!!!!

Example:
I know of one family, through a friend of a friend (I don't even know their name) that had 6 kids between them. 4 together, and 2 from a previous relationship. They lied to social servies and said they weren't together and were never married. They've been married for 15 years. He has a well paying job, and she works. They receive section 8, food stamps, medical assistance, electric/heating assistance, you name it. Never in 15 years has anyone checked on their marital status or if they reside together. I can't even turn them in because I don't know their names or where exactly they live. Abuse of the system, and that's only one example. I could give others that I have reported, and nothing has ever been done to correct it.

Oh, I know many out there are like that. You see my location don't you? I also totally agree on the 'nothings ever done' point. Social services just suffered a big cut back/lay off not to long ago. Not to downplay that the system needs work or make excuses for the dept. Just like the foster care program desperately needs to do more drop in checks on the homes the children are in... more drop ins are needed on housing and benefit clients too. The system they have now, contacts the people ahead of time and sets up date and time for their visit. :eyebrow: Whats the point? If given a warning that they're coming, all will be in order when they arrive. They claim they don't have the manpower to monitor the programs properly. *shrugs*

I get pissed off when she knows when they are going to "drop In".... cuz she gets others to clean up... and tells the others living in there for free to scram....

it :bs:...... one time they really need to stop by on the weekends as she is yelling and Meffing at the kids... and dropping the eff bomb every moment to them...and watch the kids run a muck outside while she is not looking after them.... :momoftheyearawardwinner:

I would rather they give it to someone trying to better themself and their situation, then someone sitting back with their hand held out.

There are a lot of working poor people that can't get help because of the poor excuse for a human being that's getting it all.

There is nothing wrong with getting help, when you need it! But give it to those that need it.

My dad is currently getting food stamps. For a single male in his 60's he gets $16.00 a month. He worked his whole life and loss the use of his leg due to a car accident he had years before while driving a dump truck. The muscle in his leg was killed and slowly died and withered away. Because it was years later before it was diagnosed he is SOL on the accident covering anything. I told him $16.00 is better than nothing.

Personal i think food stamp money should not be allowed to buy soda, candy, or subs from gas stations. They need to be strict on how they spend the money. Fruits, veggies, and meats! Drug test should be a MUST! I got pee clean to get a job, you should pee clean to get free money! Also a time limit. If you haven't tried to better yourself in 6 months your off the program! Jmo

As far as I know cooked food is not allowed. Maybe the station just doesn't go by the guidelines since nobody would be the wiser and a sale is a sale or the guidelines have changed. Years ago I saw a woman order six dozen crabs and ten pounds of shrimp at the seafood store, being me I spoke up (in a nice way of course)" I didn't know you could get crabs and shrimp with stamps." she said that as long as its not cooked its allowed, but that they will steam them for free if you ask. Like I said a sales a sale I guess.

I have always felt soda, candy, chips, etc shouldn't be allowed. Fresh meat, fruits and veggies as you said. If need be replace them with a few necessary things... maybe allow store brand t-paper, soap and toothpaste.

As for the drug testing you mentioned...:dingding:
