My geek BIL is coming down this weekend, so hopefully he'll help me get it straightened out. Basically, I've just been sitting fat, dumb, and happy without getting any updated anti-virus for months. So this was inevitable.
I get free A/V, spyware, etc. from having a Comcast subscription (or so I thought). I'd have called McAfee to troubleshoot, but they would have wanted my paid subscription account info, so I had to go through Comcast. But Comcast switched from McAfee to Norton in Jan of last year, and I didn't become aware of that until I asked Peggy at Comcast yesterday why McAfee didn't recognize (and prevent) this download. That's when he told me.
I suppose it would have been nice if Comcast told me they were switching, but I guess one gets what one pays for.
I might not be able to post everyone's picks or the scorecard until I get this fixed. But once it's fixed, I'll get that all out here.

You may want to try Microsoft Security Essentials - it is free, integrates with Windows Update and is light-weight (does not use a lot of resources)...
