Formula 1 Controversy

I have definately pondered these questions, however ultimately I believe Michelin was testing the FIA by not running(in practice/qualifying) the correct tire. It is hard to really know who to blame since all of the facts have not been presented. Either way, I will not attend another USGP until some major issues are resolved.

Didn't Michelin in fact deliver an alternative tire to the track prior to race time? But were not allowed to use them because of the rules. That is, the tires you qualify on, are the tires you race.

Should have the FIA backed-off this rule and ensured a full field? Was there still a risk with another Michelin tire since it had no track time? Was the FIA being stubborn and setting an example with Michelin and thier lack of preparedness?

Regardless, this debacle has helped to chase away alot of present and potential F1 fans in the US.

Yeah this whole thing is ridiculous. I will no longer watch F1 racing on SPEED Channel.

I'm angrier about Bernie Eclestone's comments to Danica Patrik

"You know,” he said to live television cameras, “I've got one of those wonderful ideas — women should be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances."

Good heavens! It sounds like we've got a bunch of quiche eaters on the net! Reminds me of when I was in Greece and went to a carnival that had a bumper cars ride. We watched the Greeks driving the bumper cars like real cars... stopping to yield the right-of-way, careful passing, watching their speeds, etc. Then my flightcrew and I jumped in and showed them what bumper cars were designed for - BUMPING! We smashed and dashed each other, and within minutes the Greeks were right in it with us and having a blast. Then we left and the Greeks went back to their old ways.

That's what the difference between NASCAR and Formula 1 racing are... a bunch of rednecks shoving and bruising their way to first place, versus a bunch of highbrow stodgies with cigarette holders amazing at the gentlemeness of it all... boring. While I'll freely state that I can't understand what most of the NASCAR drivers from the woods of North Carolina are saying any more than some Italian F-1 driver, but the NASCAR guys seem to have a lot more fun.
:yeahthat:  We drink beer after a race, F1 drinks milk.....

Actually F1 drinks Mumm Champagne. Winners of the Indy 500 drink milk, which started some years ago in order to encourage children to drink milk.
I know, just trying to get ya going. I am surprised that more Ppl. don't get into F1 due to the speeds they attain. It's probably because they run so many road courses which I find exceedingly BORING. I prefer 200 mph around an oval anyday. The fact that they didn't race doesn't help their publicity at all.

Like itsbob stated, NASCAR drivers would have run that race and compensated for the bad tires with good set-ups.

Really? I watch F1 because of the road courses. I find the oval extremely dull. If NASCAR did more road courses I would probably get into it.

Once again, the drivers weren't given the choice. The team managers gave the call even though most of the drivers still wanted to race. I felt kind of sorry for the 3rd place winner. I think that was his first time on the podium and he so wanted to celebrate, but it just wasn't appropriate.

Yea, personal preferences I guess. I watch F1 at Indy & other ovals. Man when they crash, they CRASH!!! :yay:

F1 doesn't run on ovals. They utilize part of the Indy original track combined with a twisty coarse that runs through the infield. Champ Cars and Indy cars are a couple types of open wheel cars that run the ovals. A F1 car is actually quite a machine that weighs in at 1350 pounds driver included and boasts a 950+hp engine. The acceleration, braking and lateral turn speeds of F1 cars are phenomenal.
Open wheel cars along with a few other forms of racing run very impressive machines. I watch many forms of racing, and find NASCAR to be one of the least impressive. Heck, I know of go-carts that can beat a NASCAR through coarses like Watkins Glen and small ovals.

Until they get squashed.

Seriously, speed is speed and any form of racing is okay in my book.

One of my favorite factoids is that they create so much downforce that the cars can actually drive upside-down at something like 100 mph (but you'd probably have fuel issues).

BTW, still have the RS? I'd like to trade mine in for a WRX wagon.

I will always have the RS. I plan on purchasing a Wagon this Fall. I am waiting to see all the details before I make a decision on a 2005 or 2006 WRX Wagon. The 06 supposedly will get the 2.5ltr turbo. The new look has officially been relased and it isn't bad looking.

Hmmm, I actually like the look of the '05 better, but the 2.5ltr turbo...I guess I'll have to see what the pricing is.
