Formula One Set to Split as Teams Plan New Series

Eight Formula One teams said on Thursday they would start preparations for a new series in 2010 after refusing to bow to the demands of the governing International Automobile Federation.

A statement said BMW-Sauber, Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toro Rosso and Toyota were united in the decision.

"It has become clear ... that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 world championship," the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) said.

It's much more exciting to watch an oversized, under engineered turd drive around in a circle a few hundred times.

Side by side racing is fun to watch. But they don't have that in F1. :ohwell:

Even better is when the oversized underengined cars waddle through a road course...

Give me small, light, fast and nimble cars on a road course any day over NASCAR on a roadcourse.

I have become much more of an ALMS and LMS fan lately.
Small, light, fast and nimble cars on a road course without all the politics.

They drive with skill instead of brute force and ignorance.
Those F1 cars have so much technology aimed at making the cars easier to drive... they almost drive themselves. It's much harder to wheel a rolling turd around Infineon Raceway.

The technology in F1 cars make them much faster, but not at all easier to drive than a COT.
There is still someone behind the wheel, manipulating the throttle, brakes, and shifter, while dealing with high G forces.

Ask Scott Speed. :killingme

When has Scott Speed ever said that a COT is harder to drive as compared to a F1 car?

He hasn't. That's why I suggested you ask him.

He hasn't had any success in the COT -- compare his NASCAR Cup stats to his Nationwide, Truck and ARCA performances (all different from the COT).

Now, here's what Montoya has to say about it:

“Formula 1 drivers are convinced that they're so much better than anyone else,” Montoya told The Times. “When I was in F1, every week I was on the podium. It was cool, but is it satisfying? It wasn't, because it was the most boring races.

“The guy who started in front of you would drive away from you, and the guy who was behind you would drop away from you, unless you [had] f***ed up in qualifying – and then you needed to have a different pit-stop strategy to beat them.

“It's boring. It's a shame, because the technology these cars have and the amount of companies that are involved is unreal. I don't know how big companies do it for such a long time without results.”

:killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme

“It's harder here,” argued the Bogota native, currently sitting 19th in the championship chase out of some 67 fierce competitors. “When you run 15th, sometimes you think it sucks, but look at the big picture – 15th here is like sixth or seventh in F1, because there are twice as many cars.

“The incredible thing is here I run 15th or 20th on average, and there are four or five weeks in the year where I have a chance of winning. In F1 if you run sixth or seventh, you run sixth or seventh the whole year.

“It doesn't matter if you're running for the lead, or for 30th, you're always racing somebody [in NASCAR]. That's much better.”

:coffee:

Here's what Dario Franchitti (who just abandoned ship and headed back to IRL IndyCar) has to say:

“It's been a tough baptism,” reflected the Scot. “I thought it would be difficult, but I didn't realise how difficult. The good thing is I feel I know a lot more now about what to do.

“For anybody that loves cars, it's entertainment that's second-to-none. If you want exciting racing, to watch people driving cars that are very difficult to drive, this is the answer.”

:eek:penwheelpwnage: :roflmao:

How's that NASCAR thing working out for Jaques Villeneuve? :killingme:killingme

Hey, at least Sam Hornish is getting better (at wrecking himself and others) :roflmao:

They drive with skill instead of brute force and ignorance.
And they're defecting to NASCAR faster than the hybrid is destroying this country yet with all their "skill" they suck ass and can't drive in NASCAR.

Danica is next.... :lmao:

No where has it been said that a F1 car is easier to drive than a COT.

No F1 drivers have defected. Montoya was fired, and took a job in NASCAR.
The same for the other drivers. They went where they would get a paycheck.

Pookieboo!!!
I wonder what will happen to a lot of Nascar teams as the big 3 fall apart. Maybe Fox will cover Super GT.

Keep your blinders on Michael. Open wheel is boring and losing fans faster every year.

All those drivers fired eh?? I guess Danica needs a paycheck too.... :killingme She knows where the real racing is.
