Four Day school Weeks?

Superintendent John Fazer said Holton school officials notice many advantages, including sociological benefits for children who have two working parents and can't be home for the other part of a half-day kindergarten schedule.

I wouldn't quite cite this as proof for the change.

What about books? Are they going to have enough for all the students? I know that was a concern for someone who has issues with public schools. It is a concern for me also. What are ways that we can help make it easier for our kids to have the proper materials for learning? More fund raisers? But since money is so tight that is not going to work. Should we make each child buy there own books? Which again is costly. I dont want my kids education being screwed up because the government doesnt know how to budget there money! Maybe if they were out buying hookers we could have more money for schools.

I meant it as some parents cannot take off. Not everyone has that job flexibility.
I know what you meant...Some parents get upset because the open house is during the day, but the schools do it any way because it's only one day and not a requirement that the parents participate. BUT can you imagine how much more upset the parents would be if the schools went to 4-day weeks and parents would have to make arrangements for their children to be elsewhere on that 5th day.

I think that's why they haven't seriously pursued that as an option here.

My Hubby is losing pay because he really wants to be there. But that means we will have to cut back on some things on the next paycheck to catch up. Luckily i thought a head and put some money aside to cover things. I didn't have active parents in my school life so i went wild. Even when i was old enough to know what is right and wrong. I blame both my parents and I. Now i have the chance to do better then them. I know that is a little off subject. For the parents who want to be involved in their kids education why make the orientation during the day?

Can he do comp time to catch up? Work an hour or two more before/after his normal time? This is the first year that daughter's open house is in the evening (middle school). Every other time I've had to leave work, pick her up, travel to the school and walk around.

If school supplies are an issue, I think the schools need to cut back in other areas. Maybe start with non-essentials, such as free coffee for teachers or perhaps make information to parents/guardians available online or via e-mail instead of sending sheets home.

My Sister-in-law collected 1/2 pay = $50k a few years back to take a sabatical, which during this time she took art classes. She's a math teachers - I don't see the benefit. Cut out the paid sabaticals.

Have more 9 month positions, it cuts back pay and benefits.

Just some of my thoughts...

He is trying to talk to them about coming in early everyday. I guess we will find it out. I know he cant work late. Everyone leaves at 3:30pm. I hope they let him do it. Money is so tight. But i always make it. When he gets 3 pay days in a month i pay extra on the house bills. So we are a little ahead. But it will be worth it. It is his first day in school. New process for both us.

I agree. I think all we need in schools are the basic.

Free coffee for teachers? :roflmao: I can gauratnee the coffee never comes out of the school budget. Either teachers pay for it themselves or the principal sponsors coffee.

You really think teachers get any kind of perks? They are not in it for the "free art classes". They are in it to teach your child for the love of teaching. If they wanted money they would do something else. :lmao:

And send it all on e mail? Are you clueless? Do you know how many people don't have access to a computer?

Last time I checked, most teachers were in it for the 9 month job and the summer months off. I can't think of one teacher when I was growing up that did anything more than was expected.

So you did an independent survey of every teacher in the county and came to this conclusion? I bet you don't believe that there should be homework either.

I don't know what teachers you have talked to but I have quite a few friends that are teachers and I can say with certainty that they are not teachers for the summers off. Granted that would be a nice perk but that is not why they went into teaching. Many teachers take classes during the summers to further their education to teach our children and are grossly underpaid for what they do.

I had plenty of teachers growing up that went above and beyond. Many teachers these days fill their classroom with a ton of supplies and books that come out of their own pocket.

At the bottom of your note - is that really your myspace page? Are you just on here collecting "talk show talk" or do you really care?

I really hope your kids aren't suffering the same ignorance you do. 'your job' should be getting your head outta your behind.

Sounds like you need to meet and get to know more teachers before you throw that kind of blanket statement out there.

What a piss poor attitude you have, I guess you haven't been keeping up with the news lately. Plenty of female teachers have gone above and beyond what's expected of them. I think you should change your name to "myjobisteacher" and consider home schooling your chirins.

I know plenty of teacher - and it's true they wanted an easy ride through college and to get summers off.

sorry if the truth hurts and of you...
