Freecycle help needed

How in the hell do I fix my settings so I don't get notifications of every little thing?

I don't care if somebody has 2 bottles of open lotions or 8 bags of brown rice.

I just want to get rid of an work out bike and actually the item is going to be gone because I got a response within minutes of posting it.

I got 9 responses within 10-15 minutes of posting so I went ahead and deleted the ad. After it gets picked up, I think the only way I can avoid getting tons of emails is to delete my account.

I'm amazed at all the $hit people put on freecycle. Good grief.

I posted on the FB freecycle a tv stand and within 5 minutes I had 35 or so people post they were interested. Its crazy.

I hate the rules of that FB site though because they expect you to go in order of who responds instersted first...sorry I'm not going through hundreds of people giving them my address to pick free stuff up for them never to show. Stupidest thing Ive ever heard of. Now theyve updated the rules that people can post their friends names who they thing would be interested. The same people continuously say theyre interstetd too. Its like wtf are you putting all this free #### youre picking up???

Within a matter of seconds.... I had a woman send me a message with her name, phone number, etc. BEGGING for the item. Her husband is in rehab for an injury and they use this bike for that so it is clearly going to a good cause.

But yeah... I've heard TONS of pros/cons here so I knew what I was getting myself in to. I'm just glad somebody plans to get it that can actually use it. We ended up with it when a friend ended up going to foreclosure, years later they have asked us to just get rid of it.

I stuck it in the driveway because I may or may not be here when they get here. I got too much to do at home to wait all day. :ohwell:

Honestly that is what I do now too  I post my item wait for someone to message me that they can be there asap to get the item. Then I delete my post. So much easier. I dont have time to go name by name hoping someone will show.

Good... I guess as a Freecycle newbie I did something right because that is exactly what I did.

Yep. Their rules are COMPLETE crap. I refuse to comply. If you want my stuff, you'd better send me a private message. Otherwise, screw you AND the site admins. If they want to remove me, I'll make my own site. Bishes be crayzee.
And oh by the way - their rules are the exact opposite of true Freecycle standards. In fact, the REAL Freecycle (an actual legitimate organization) advocates NOT using the 1st come, 1st serve rule.

"My stuff. My rules." /eos

In the end I had 21 hits asking for the item and deleted it when I felt confident that the person I spoke to was coming to get it, which they did. I left and when I came back, it was gone, which was wonderful... now I have that amount of room back.

When Freecycle was first started, I believe the concept was great. I gave away and picked up a few things through it. I still have a huge and heavy, homemade entertainment center in my store that I picked up in Lexington Park about 8 years ago.

What I have thought for many years, though, is that some enterprising people are grabbing up the stuff and selling it. Where I don't really have a problem with that, I only donate to SPOT thrift shop (which pays for spay and neuters) in St Leonard or SMILE in Lusby and/or I will sell the stuff myself!

You'll find it on the side of the road at a "pick up" rummage or at the Farmer's Market. Pros pick up FreeCycle stuff then sell it at one of the thousands of "neighborhood" rummage sales.

As a FreeCycle "newbie" you should also know that the pick up of the item should be done in a public place (some police stations offer the service) and not at your home. Too many hold ups, shootings, etc. at Craig's List deals so FreeCycle could be the same.
