The dogs job is to protect his officer... every time it is released it does not think about putting its life on the line, it just does.

I have a German Shepherd - when I am here she is a really laid back dog. When I am not around, she is a different animal, very protective of the wife - and especially of the boy. She was not trained for this, she just does it... I really understand these dogs, I have been raised around them and own them - they are an amazing breed...

I used to have a Search and Rescue Dog that I had to get rid of - I donated him to Capital Hill Police K-9 Unit where he is a SAR and Bomb dog. It is a felony to harm or kill them. Hope the a$$wipe fries. Stupid people, if they want to kill themselves why hurt others.

These animals often go into areas that are too dangerous or too small for a regular Officer to go into and they have been known to save the life of their human partners on many occasion. They are faster at chasing down a suspect and it has only been in the past few years that some cities have actually begun putting bulletproof vests on their Police Dogs as they started to acknowledge how valuable they really are. This low-life deserves to be punished as harshly as they can dish it out to him.

Didn't say you were. I am not a PETA lover, I think they go too far as I am an avid hunter and fisher, but if anyone hurt any of my pets there would be hell to pay. No the dog was not a person but in its lifetime it did more good than alot of PEOPLE do and the idoit that jumped should be charge for the death of a police officer.

I would love to see rapists and child molesters prosecuted to the fullest for the horrible crimes they commit. The honest truth is that there's a greater chance this guy will get a harsh punishment for killing a Dog who is considered a Police Officer than what a Sex Offender gets for rape or child molestation.

As for punishments to be handed out, how about throwing the cop off the bridge? Don't feed me that PR crap about dogs being officers. If cops cared so much about their scent dogs, they wouldn't send them to do the takedowns that they're too pussy to do themselves. The dogs do the takedowns, because the dogs are expendable.

I'm just piecing the pertinent pieces together, I do not want to misconstrue anything...

This leads me to believe that Maryland Law has something separate which outlines death of a K9 used in law enforcement... which I would suspect as being a bit stiffer.

I did find out that some agencies do have their K9's listed as "sworn police officers" - no Andy, they the dog do not literally swear or swear in - I know it's coming...

Where is SOMDCop when we need him :shrug: - maybe he has some insight to this...

I cannot find anything online to support this.
