Frisbee and the new dog

I taught my dog the "leave it" command. Sometimes he'd want to hold on the the ball or toy, and if he was really stubborn with it, I'd just open his mouth with my hand. If it's really bad, you can reach over her nose (put the area between your thumb and index finger over the bridge of her nose) and push her lip into her teeth (the pointy part of the canine teeth work well). You don't have to do it hard at all, and she should open her mouth. It won't hurt her, it'll just be uncomfortable. At the same time, make sure you give her the command you want to use (leave it, drop it, etc) and when she opens her mouth, give her all kinds of silly praise.

We can't open her mouth using those methods. She has the strongest bite we have ever come across. Papers say she is half-pitt (though we don't really think so). We can't even pry her jaws apart.

I haven't tried the lip or nose thing yet, but I did try grabbing the upper and lower jaw and pulling. I might as well try to lift my truck. Actually at least the truck would give a little.:lmao:
Here's the latest. You can see BS Gal is losing her mind trying to explain what "give" means.
Actually Rassie was much better today. I think we were engaging her in a different game without realizing it.
This is the "older" dog we were getting. Just don't tell her.:lmao:

While blocking out my face, please do not make it look like I have advanced cellulite/fatness on my arm. TIA.

In addition, DR figured out the game. If you stand there and try to take it from her, it becomes "tug of war." If you sit on the deck steps, she will bring it and give it to you. The "I'm not interested in this" game works! Also, brought her out tonight on the deck and there were deer at the bottom of the yard. She was interested but knows the "stay" command very well.

That's great! Its amazing how willing dogs are to cooperate when you act like you could care less
