Frustrating, Yet Funny.

no more than four toys out at one time. they want something else they put one back. that is how it works.

Four is kinda a low amount especially since she has 2 kids. WR you have so many toys you could open a toy store or even your own rent a toy monthly thing j/k lol don't feel bad I have a bunch as well but do not keep them all out. Try watching your 4 year old and see what he plays with that way you know the stuff that won't be missed if you put it away. Or if you want ask him to pick out his favorite toys.

When your baby gets a little older, you tell me how well that works out for you. :roflmao:

Worked great for me. Picking up that many toys is a daunting task for an adult, much less a child that needs to be learning to pick after himself.

Will do. We just made this a play room about a week ago because we were sick of having toys scattered throughout the house. :ohwell:

Have you heard of the toy rental thing? I kinda like it because kids play with things and get bored quickly its kinda nice to be able to have something and if they get bored with it you are not stuck with a expensive toy that just sits there. I think it would be cool to have a toy trade among friends where you swap unwanted toys for new ones.

I wish I had a playroom!!! All I have is my living room which thankfully is really a good size very long. We have tried splitting the living room one side is for the TV and couches and other is the play area with another TV and game systems and toys. When ever we buy a house we really want a basement or at the very least a playroom!

The 4-year-old did try... but he didnt use the bins because then "he couldnt find anything." :ohwell: And like I said, it is still a disaster.

Also, his brother came and started making a mess immediately.

My remedy for this was toy rotation. If it didn't get picked up and put away, I took it away for so long that you thought it was a new toy when you got it back.

Make a game out of cleanup time. Give them a color to find. Tell them that the kid that finds the most toys of that color in 5 minutes wins a prize. I did snacks as prizes. Continue until you've gone through all the colors in the rainbow. It will work great for both ages. I did it with mine. It was recommended by a behavioral specialist.

The 16-month-old does not know colors yet

Very clever and creative. That's one I would have used...and lemme' tell ya', you'd be surprised what your child can learn. By the time mine went to kindergarten, they could do simple math. Believe in them.

Another one that I did was toss 2 hula hoops out and told them that the first one that clears out the spot wins 10 extra minutes of awake time. My kids are highly competitive so this worked great for a bit. Now they just clean their rooms so they don't have to catch #### from Mommy.

Bargaining for an extra 30 minutes of tv was always a great tool, too. Of course, we had already established that anything beyond the normal tv allowance had to be educational tv.

I have a handful of movies that the girls are allowed to watch while they lay in bed. All of them are calm movies. I let Miss Sassy Pants put the Bieber movie in one night because she was actually good all day. Never again. She was dancing and singing and then probably dreaming Bieber. Most of the Princess movies are okay, but Harold and the Purple Crayon movies work like a champ. They put me to sleep. Sharon Stone's voice is so calming.

Now Boy is different. He watches Pawn Stars and Storage Wars in his bed. He also crashes within 15 minutes of hitting the pillow too so I don't argue with him.

My 20 month old reduces my living room to that state. One of these days I really am going to set him up his own damn playroom. Especially once the (small) lego age hits.

I just have one giant toybox for it all, though. Takes me about 5 minutes to sweep through the room and cram everything back into it and shove the bigger items to the edges of the room. Generally I can do that and then leave a spatula or a spare set of keys out and he'll play with those for days :killingme

The colors and hula hoop ideas are fantastic! Going to have to start working on the colors one. Then in another 2 years when #2 is old enough to get it we can start competitive cleaning. Bahaha.

My sons daycare has clean up time, all the little ones are to go and get the toys and put them back, sort of a group exercise, except...the teachers say my son just blows raspberries at them when asked to clean up.

Yeah, my DCP claims my son helps with clean up. I've yet to see any evidence of this. In fact I generally see the exact opposite at home. If I try to tidy up while he's awake he'll sit right next to me pulling things out of the toybox as I'm putting them in.
