We have the biggest full moon of the year tonight. How about we have a full moon picture thread? Post your best full moon pictures here. Anybody up for this?

I just took this one between the clouds rolling in.
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/320 sec
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 300mm
tripod using 10 second timer

It looks a little soft to me?? I think it's due to my 70-300 lens zoomed all the way to 300mm.

You're a LOON :)
Very cool! I was out shooting the moon tonight but I haven't looked at them yet. I am sure they won't look like yours

I did see a shooting star :)

It doesn't look "soft" as much as there was a bit of movement. Shows up easy with a long lens. At 10 seconds, the moon moves a noticeable distance, enough to show up on a shot.

CRF, THere shouldn't be any motion blur from the moons movement in that since you shot it at 1/320 of a second. Looks like softness or maybe more toward camera moving a touch on the tripod.

At 300mm on a tripod at slower exposure speeds, the mirror in the DSLR can cause vibration when it moves up (mirror slap) It is really noticed in high contrast images.

I take back my comment. i saw the 10 second timer and thought 10 second exposure. It was late... i wasn't coherent.

It does still look like movement, but could have been anything. Long lens shows it up very easily.

This one i took as the sky was lighting up (around 7:15) this morning. I think the softness is the tripod moving. Last night it was windy, this mornings looks better. It was calm winds but i didn't have the tripod locked down tight as had i taken the shot this morning before i read the suggestions. Thanks and hopefully i will get out tonight for another try.

You can't rely on your cameras meter when taking moon shots. Another advantage of the digital is trial and error is cheap so play with your settings. But a better cheat for moon shots is the internet. check out
moon-exposure-calculator/ Go to Manual mode and dial up the suggested settings. This will get you real close then experiment with faster and slower shutter speeds.

Shot from my backyard last night, 100% crop as i only have a 200mm lens. Need to get a longer lens or a teleconverter...lol.

It's cold tonight but i gave it one more try. Went in "live view" and magnified X10 and with the tripod locked tight i could still see the moon moving. I think this is the moon moving in the sky, not the camera on the tripod since it is a fairly heavy duty unit. The pictures did turn out better then last night. For a few i also upped the ISO to 200 which let me get the shutter speed up to 400. This was still at 300mm and a 75% crop.
