Garage door openers and Lowes

I finally decided to replace the opener that got zapped by lightning years ago. I went to Lowes yesterday and picked up a Genie screw drive model. Got it home, unpacked it and got to work. Got all the way to step 4, install the center screw drive assy. At the end of the screw shaft there is a little flange that mates with the other screw shaft and once you slip a collar over it you have a continuous shaft. Except the flange wasn't there. In fact it looked like about 6" of the shaft was missing. Arrgh!
Took it apart, repacked, back to Lowes and returned it. Two hours gone now. Got another one and went home. I unpacked it and inspected it and, what do you know, same thing! The missing section was not in the box in either case. How the heck did these make it out of the factory? I'm going back tonight and opening all the garage door boxes in the store. Listen to your scanners.

You could just wait for your wife to get home from work and show you how to put it together.

If you are suggesting it is my problem, believe me, it's still in my mind that I'm missing something here.

Apparently, you are totally unaware of my mechanical abilities.

I probably won't be at Lowes, looking at the manual online I think I figured it out. :banghead:
Next time BS Gal will be doing this.

If you had just gotten those glasses repaired sooner, maybe this wouldn't have been a problem.

This thing must be made in China. Their instructions are NEVER clear and most of the time make no sense whatsoever!

Hey Desrtat,
My Husband and his father owns a Garage door company. They have been in business for over 30years( Well His father has). We never had any complaints and they are honest and reliable people. The company names is Lanham Garage Doors they are based out of Owings Maryland. Chad my hubby does the residential work. So you will want to talk to him.
This is if you like to go a different route than putting one in yourself.
I hope things work out for you in the end. I know those darn openers can be a pain in the rear. Especially Genies openers. all their gears are plastic and they are crap.

Did you get everything worked out!

If you don't mind me asking how much was the opener and how much do they charge to install? Chad only charges $375-$395 for opener and installation.
