My wife is heading out of town soon and I am thinking about getting her a nav system. I want something that is easy to use, has voice directions, current updates, and is easy to store(I know they get stolen alot). Im doing online research, but Im just looking for personal oppinions, like or dislikes.
Thanks

Let me help out the one with the disable again. I didn't realize your disable covered reading comprehension as well as the spelling. :killingmePsst........ search is your friend. :huggy:

Got a Garmin I'm happy with. Hasn't gotten me lost yet. Get the mount where it goes on your dash and you can slide it under the seat.

With all the traveling I do, I get a lot of use out of my Garmin. Hasn't given me any problems in any of the states I have been to and it was under 200 dollars. For updates, you need to either buy the chips of the updated maps or buy the cable to connect it to the computer I believe. I have not updated mine is over the 2 years i have had it, so someone else maybe able to help you out with that part.

Gamin or a Magellin and they make pretty cases for them the tom tom is not that great my brother has one. My dad has a garmin and my fiance has a magellin they are both easy to use!!

In My Opinion
I use the Garmin Nuvi 260w.
whats good about it is that it does have a nice map, is within a few feet of exact and talks to you. The screen automatically shifts from daytime lighting to nighttime lighting, It will find the closest store or gas station, hotel, attraction etc... and allow you to go there as a way point to your final destination.
It has not yet been wrong.

the down side is that it sometimes will bring you a way that may not be the easiest, might be the fastest or most direct, but when you are pulling a trailer those 12 miles of backroads with single lane bridges and no shoulders suck.

for a fairly cheap GPS it does its job rather well.

After much research, I bought a Garmin Nuvi 660. It's excellent.
I've been told by more than a few people to avoid Tom Toms, so I did.

If you can, make sure to get one with text-to-speech. That feature means it will say the actual street names, while those without it, won't. For instance, it will say "In 300 yards, turn left onto Pennsylvania avenue". As opposed to some models, which only say "In 300 yards, turn left at the next intersection". It makes it a bit easier, as you don't have to be constantly looking at the screen to see what the acutal road name is supposed to be. It helps.

My MIL has a tomtom. She says it keeps getting her lost.

I have a TomTom and he's a NoNo...I'll like to throw him (and yes I said him) out the window!!! He always takes me the longest way possible! He's very annoying, I would purchase a Garmin, I know I will the next time I buy!

:yeahthat: Love my Garmin Nuvi 255W. Text to speech is great and I get to choose accents -- love the british gentleman, especially when he says "recalculating" when I decide to go a different way (because I know the road) or if I miss a turn. Sister had a TomTom and hated it, went right out & bought a Garmin Nuvi. We update via computer cable -- easy!!!

Over the weekend, I rode with my aunt & cousin all over Akron, OH. The cousin had a Garmin and it seemed to get us all over the place with little trouble. Like TwinOaks said, it will even recalculate if you (knowing the area) take a different route than the one recommended.

It looks like a cool thing to have, for trips, actually.
