Gas prices up 25 cents in the past week

Dear Karma Giver,
I am not a retard. I just choose to quit complaining about something that I have no control over. They could raise gas prices to $5 per gallon and I'd still have to pay it. I must get to work.

I remember reading a report from a few years ago (after the prices first started jumping) that the oil companies had made more profits in the first quarter of that particular year than the entire year before that. To me, that's wrong.

ExxonMobil (for example) is a HUGE company. Normal profit is probably around 6-7%. The larger the company, the more people you employee which would return a larger profit. Makes sense to me.

And yes, I think even a $.05 decrease in prices would help..but do you really think they're overcharging by only $.05?

No, I don't think they are over charging at all. Not even by five cents.

If the price went from $2.81 earlier this month, to $3.09 today, you honestly think that going back to $3.04 will suddenly make it hurt less? That's like saying a little KY is an improvement, but in the long run you're still taking it up the

Gas prices aren't high because the oil companies want them to be. They are high because OPEC wants them to be. Put the blame where it belongs.

"I'm not a retard, I just play one on SoMD Forums!" :lmao:

Sorry Socki, no reflection on you, that thought just blew thru my head when I read your post.....

Ok, I'll go away now...... :kickingrocks:

When you're tight on money and saving every penny, every little bit helps.

 It's been all over the news. Refinery fire and Chavez making people freak out. Oil topped $100. It is supposed to hit $3.75 by Memorial Day.

When a single refinery is shut down, for a fire or hurricane or whatever, it effects the entire US. Why, you ask? Well how about the fact that there has not been a new refinery built in the US for how many years now? (If you are guessing 10, guess higher!)

Demand has increased world wide, as well as in the US. The US now imports not only oil, but refined gasoline as well. The tree huggers are doing their best to put a strangle hold on the economy because they have no concept of unintended consequences.

It makes people "feel good" to oppose drilling in ANWAR, off our coasts etc... But ask them to think about the consequences and they start complaining about record profits for oil companies etc...

Start complaining about the record "profits" the government takes in on fuel taxes and you will get deer in the head lights looks. Complain that our politicians bend over for every "Green" cause at the expense of our country's economy and stability and you will be called a Nazi.

So, put price controls on fuel and watch for long lines at the pumps again, more biotching, and the our politics pander to the sheeple by repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Anyone know why? I haven't seen anything about it on the news as to what caused such a large spike in prices.

There was an explosion at a refinery in Texas.

In totally unrelated news, there was a Grease-fire at a McDonalds in Achin' A-hole, Idaho last week. The price of Big Macs is is expected to reach $24.95

Fuel prices affect more than just driving your car around, they affect the price of heating or cooling your home, how much your groceries are going to cost, how much your clothes are going to cost. With record high fuel costs, it 'fuels' the inflationary fires which devalues our dollar even more.

Probably the main reason the economy is currently in the crapper.

You have three vehicles and you complain about a few cents, sounds like you need to quit buying crap you really don't need.

Do you want to be my personal finance manager? I only own one and a half vehicles. All 3 are paid for. We got the car for $900. I think $900 for a car that gets great gas mileage is worth it when you can park your other 2 in the driveway. And we do need all 3 vehicles. We don't drive the SUV and truck to work, but they are still needed. The truck gets used for work...like towing trailers and hauling stuff? The SUV is needed for trips where everyone (and the dog) need to go. So, I appreciate your interest in my finances, but I assure you, it's under control.
