Get a Carbon Monoxide detector, vent free is really a misnomer it vents into the room.

Head up! We decided to go with Taylor Gas Provider using the Propane Gas and leasing a tank.

We didn't get very many advices here about the local providers, and we took it up ourselves calling around asking our friends who have gas for thier fireplace and cooking range.

Taylor Gas is the best company if you don't have a main line from Washington Gas (that's who services the natural gas lines here in St. Mary's county) I've had Suburban before and they were twice as pricey as Taylor.

I have a wood fireplace that is burning all the time. It really helps with the oil heat costs. of course, the wood is from our own farm and the only price of getting it is our sweat and time. But then again, nothing beats a nice toasty family room at night when we are watching tv!

I haven't heard of "Washington Gas". Are they any good? We called the Suburban and they are a little more costly. Taylor Gas is cheaper. Alot of people I know are telling us to go with Taylor because they are cheaper and much nicer people to work with when you need service or have problems.

Thanks so much for the advice! That's what I was looking for. :yay:

Another Head Up:

Taylor Gas won't let us lease the tank if it is going to be used for fireplace only. Does anyone have this problem and have to use other company to get their gas for the fireplace?

We are forced to look somewhere else. :jameo:

Will they lease you the tank if you buy the fireplace from them? They sell the freestanding gas fireplaces, may be worth looking into.

I have no idea. We bought the vent free gas fireplace from Tri-County Hearth and Patio place, which is alot cheaper than the Taylor Gas are selling thier fireplaces for. Sometimes, you have to go where the real bargains are.

If it's only for the fireplace, go to Lowes and buy a 100 pound tank, have a gas company run and install the lines and regulator. But first, find out who will deliver and at what cost to a privately owned tank.
