Gastric bypass, newest medicaid/medicare pig trough?

Thanks for sharing that link. The prices look reasonable for those carts too.

If I or a family member ever needed something like that that is the first one I would look at. This woman successfully navigated through a Bed Bath and Beyond store in it with little problem, the isles in those places are pretty narrow.

What is really funny is I saw her in a Big Lots store 40 miles away the day before, I wouldn't have realized if I wasn't so impressed by the scooter to notice.

I lost a ton of weight without getting the GBS surgery and up until the last year or so I have kept it all off. I will take it off again just have to get in the right mindset and I am getting there. I have had a lot of illness and injury this past year that has WAY affected my exercise ability.

The durable medical equipment is so expensive and insurance doesn't cover some of it. I need hearing aids and am trying to figure out paying for them. The ear that is the most affected with get the hearing aid first.

I have 40% hearing loss in both ears but prefer to only have one digital hearing aid and it works out great for me. You don't always have to get two, but yes they always try to get you to buy two.

The right ear is the worse - if someone talks in my right ear I hear nothing but mumbling. I go for a hearing test on the 9th to start process.

Responding to OP without reading the rest of the thread:

I don't know as anyone sets out to get that obese to the point that their mobility is compromised. To be eligible for gastric bypass, I believe you have to be 100+ pounds overweight, and that's not something you accomplish by snack cakes alone - there has to be an underlying reason for it. I know several people who've had the surgery and none of them I'd call extraordinarily face-stuffing or sedentary - I am WAY more lazy and food oriented than any of them and I do battle with my extra 30 lbs, not 100.

Surgery is a (relatively) quick fix, but it would be nice to see more research on metabolism and what causes some people to gain tremendous amounts of weight, vs my ahole friend who can eat like a stevedore and stay skinny.

I do object to the term "pig trough" when describing these folks because their eating and activity habits aren't always the direct cause of their morbid obesity.

One interesting part of the surgery is that it does not just limit food intake like so many people think. It really alters metabolism and the absorption of nutrients. Diabetics are usually no longer diabetic. Not after the weight loss but immediately.

If all we look at is the reduction in diabetes expenses these surgeries are worth every penny. Diabetes is so widespread now, and there is a massive cost associated with it.

Be sure you 'test drive' one hearing aid only first before you agree to getting two. There are many pitfalls to getting two and they will try to convince you to get two "because of the great technology". Trust me... if one increases your hearing awareness enough to put you back in conversations again, you'll be happier with just one.
