Anyone out there with some history? How are you doing? What was it like? What should I look for?

Thanks in advance,

My husband had it done Sept. 09. He weighed 525lbs and now weighs 182lbs. He did very well. His biggest problem was getting used to eating a new way. He can eat just about anything, but since the surgery, he cannot eat beef or anything high in fat. Makes him very sick. Also, no carbonated beverages.

I have a dear childhood friend here had it done a year and a half ago....Went from 330 and is now 221....As far as I know, he's having no problems as of last month when I last saw him.

I had the surgery in 2004 and lost over 100 lbs. The surgery is successful. There are rules that you need to follow and your success depends on it. I've seen people that have gained all their weight back and more because they didn't follow the rules. Your doctor and nutritionist will discuss these with you. If not and you want to know more, PM me and i'll be happy to chat with you offline.

I've had two sisters that have done it and several friends. So far, everyone has done well. They've all lost in excess of 100 lbs.

Best of luck to you.

I had it done in 2004 and lost over 130 pounds. One of the best decisions I ever made. There are adjustments you'll have to make, but you'll be able to live with them. You'll be able to make a list of several pages of "stuff I can do now" (like, sit comfortably in a booth in a restaurant).

I don't have a personal history with G. B., but a former full-figured co-worker had the procedure and she dropped I-don't-know-HOW much.
I didn't recognize her when I walked past her out in town one day.
"Not even gonna say 'hi', huh?" she said.

343 lbs. gone? That's GREAT!
So, does he eat a lot of broiled chicken and non-breaded/battered fish now?
No carbonated beverages? Not even a Dr. P.? He wasn't a beer drinker was he?

I'll be glad to talk with you with any questions you may have.

I'm a little short on time right now (damn work!), but PM me any specific questions you might have, and I'll respond when I get a break.

In My Opinion
I would do it more for how you feel than how you look.

If someone has a problem with your looks, F em.

I would suggest that no matter how good you think you feel now, if you need/ qualify for gastric bypass you will feel 100 times better after the fact.

I do not disagree in the least.
but, if you have the time and the resources to lose the weight without the surgery, I would suggest that before losing fast just to make someone else look at you differently.

The reason is everything.

Got it.. good point.

Many benefits to losing weight, even more benefits if you exercise to lose the weight.

If you look good, you feel good.

Seriously, a woman can be dying of the flu with body fluids coming out of every orifice. But if someone says, "Your ass looks fantastic," or even just, "Cute shirt!" suddenly they feel fabulous.
