Gate 2 Intersection Will Be a Nightmare

Push the buildings into the current roadway, put parking and building fronts facing Great Mills Road. Easier to monitor comings and goings.

But still make one entrance down by where the firehouse was. Install a sidewalk barrier the entire length.
So they must exit via Tulagi or South Coral?
That spur from Tulagi to Willows they talked about a few years ago would be nice.

Assumes you can find a tenant to rent that office space. If you have not followed the commercial real estate market, that's not easy. When I worked for ASEC back in the 2008 timeframe, they had no lock on the door. Then some of the indigents started harassing our front desk lady. Not many companies want to share space with a men's homeless shelter. That Pass Office handles more traffic that Gate 1, and also does a lot of CAC work. Where would you put that work?

I agree that signage out on the main drag showing lanes open and closed would be a huge boon. They did "repeaters" at Gate one for a short while, but stopped it.
It also makes no sense the that "main' pass office is at a part time gate since they decided to make gate 1 the full time gate then the main pass office should be there. You wouldn't believe how many trucks I see on the weekend try to get into gate 2 and have to turn around when they see that the gate is closed.

Power with Control
Expand gate 1 pass office. I go in before the pass office opens and it still causes a CF there, commercial traffic pulls in and the pass office isn't open and there is nowhere for them to go from there. So at this point that pass office handles zero traffic and still causes a mess.

Anything but a gas station with constant barrage of people wanting coffee/cigs/gas with the 7 am+ traffic.
Yeah gate one pass office that thing cost a half million freaking dollars I s*** you not.

Yep, need a better facility to process trucks. Hate turning into that lot southbound, really can't see oncoming traffic well.

I like Naval Station Norfolk where the pass office is in a large open area outside the main gate. Plenty of parking for cars and commercial vehicles that doesn't interfere with vehicles getting on base. JEB Little Creek is like Pax River, sandwiched between the major road and the fence.

I've had to get passes to get onto Pax and I will tell you this. The problem ISN'T with the pass office BUILDING. The problem is with the WORKERS and the SYSTEM. Workers move like molasses in January. The systems they use are down half the time and also slow as molasses the other half.

I was in there one time about 15 years ago and had a particularly snotty girl working one of the three counters. She wasn’t working on getting the line moving, just browsing emails and websites. Someone sent her a Java bomb that opened up and turned the volume to 11, yelling continually “hey I’m looking at gay porn”. Now I couldn’t see her screen to prove it, but the looks on the people’s face behind the counter kind of told me it had opened a site or two.

I have fortunately had good experiences with gate 1 pass office. Just be sure to go after 9:30am so you can turn left and get back out of the gate so you don't have to go through the gate and have to travel to get out of gate two.

How about they open 4 lanes at Gate 1 like they had before COVID? Have signs at both Gate 1 and 2 that accurately reflect which lanes are open. I hate coming back from lunch and trying to guess which lane to be in. I like the idea of having the pass offices in the Frank Knox building with plenty of signs telling visitors where to go so they don't get in the lines for the base. How about signs around about San Souci that ask if you have your CAC so that if you don't you turn around and get it before you get in line at the base. I don't think anything around Gate 2 will make it worse. I usually go on down to Gate 3 in the morning since I work close to that. Also how about we have a radio station that doesn't regurgitate the same traffic over and over and tells how the far the gates are backed up so that you know before you get there.
