Santa Ana Eyes Plan For Permanent Display Of Gay Pride Flag At City Hall

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Officials in Santa Ana are set to consider a proposal that would permanently fly the gay pride flag outside City Hall.
Councilman Sal Tinajera introduced the plan earlier in July, which calls for Santa Ana to display the rainbow-colored flag alongside the American flag and the California state flag, according to the Orange County Register.
If adopted, the proposal would reportedly make Santa Ana the first Orange County city to fly the flag.
The city flew the flag on July 7 for the City Council’s first meeting since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage June 27.
Tinajero – whose son Salvador is gay – told The Register he introduced the plan in order to send a “message of inclusion”.

A City In California Wants To Do WHAT With The Gay Pride Flag?

Let's see - so if Santa Ana City Council decide to approve this cockamamie plan, they will be showing solidarity with roughly 3% of their population and COMPLETELY IGNORING the rest of their citizens. All because one city councilman's son is gay.

Dude - show up at a gay pride parade or help plan his gay wedding or do something else on your own time with your family to show your son how much you love and support him. Fly the gay pride flag if your front yard! Nobody's stopping you from doing that. Don't foist the gay pride flag on your entire freaking city!

The only flags that should be flying over city, county, and state buildings are the American flag and whatever state, county, or city flags that are associated with those particular areas. That's it! Because those institutions represent everybody! Straight, gay, Christian, atheist, black, white, Republican, Democrat, etc., repeat ad infinitum. You certainly don't see cities planning to fly the Confederate flag or the Christian flag or the "Don't Tread on Me" flag or flags with a local sports team's logo alongside the American flag. Why? Because those aren't officially-sanctioned symbols of our government! That was ultimately the reason South Carolina took down the Confederate flag from over their statehouse - it had very little to do with what people thought the flag meant.

Homosexuals want so bad to be viewed as "normal" because deep down they know something with them is "broken". All you need to do is look at human genitalia to know something's wrong. Even if you believe homosexuals are born that way, doesn't change the fact that they're "broken". Flags make them feel better I guess.

The COR rants seem to be getting nuttier every day. I'm sure the residents of Santa Ana can work this out, but if they vote to fly that flag - isn't that indicative of what the People want?

Also - all you people who make the disparaging remarks about Gay people are sick. Yes, you.

If your child or grandchild or your niece, or nephew came out to you that they are Gay - would you speak to them and about them in those same disparaging and despicable terms? I have a niece who is a Lesbian. She is an intelligent woman, a modest woman, a successful businesswoman, a good, decent woman - just an absolute delight to be around. I would never speak about her the way I see some folks here doing.

Good grief.

Now about that flag. You were very adamant that the Confederate flag be taken down from a public building.
Yet you seem to have a ho-hum attitude about the Rainbow flag.
You ask isn't that indicative of what the people want?
The Confederate flag was indicative of what many in the South want, but it has to come down.
If one is offensive why isn't the other?

The rainbow flag has no business on a public building any more than Obama should have lit up the White House with Rainbow colors.
The fact is that what is offensive to so many Americans does not make one F-ing bit of difference in this politically correct BS country.
But offend one of the permanently offended politically correct icons, and we who offended by them are the nut cases.

sir...did you NOT get the memo that Bann and VeryBlonde are the final say to everything, and to discredit them is offensive, sexist, racist and homophobic....

Robert Portman changed his strong stance against marriage when he learned his son is gay. Often it takes personal experience for people to change their thinking or raise awareness. Many people that are advocates for this or that (cancer, ALS, etc...) don't give it a second thought until it hits them personally. People are funny that way.

There was no real personal experience that caused me to come around to the understanding that banning things doesn't work and it stands against personal liberty. As much as I might disagree with so many things, I want people to be free to make their own decisions; as long as those decisions aren't harming anyone else.

Wait a minute! Maybe I have you wrong, but weren’t you against removing the confederate flag; yet now you’re saying the gay flag has no place?

speaking of the permanently offended, there you are.

the confederate flag is coming down because that's what people, including the majority of those in the south, want.

Knowing several gay people, I have to disagree with you. The only thing that has been broken in them is societal acceptance. No one should have to struggle in their existence just because they have a certain lifestyle. Otherwise, I have found them to be no different than anyone else.

They're broken. Whether you believe in a creator, or whether you believe in natural selection, it doesn't matter. The job of a species is to reproduce and the only natural way for humans to do that is to insert peg into hole.

Lots of folks are broken. Folks with autism, schizophrenia, etc. Nothing wrong with it, but hanging flags doesn't change the fact that they're still broken.

Oh, blow it out your a**. Obviously, my post went over your head. The Rainbow flag isn't even close to the Confederate flag - it's more on par with a sports team's flag or a banner of a particular cause. I wouldn't vote it in, but I don't live in Santa Ana.

I was talking about the nastiness towards people who are Gay. And you know that. I'm glad I don't have the stone cold rotten heart some of you do.

You have a skewed view of what's broken, so let me make sure I understand where you're coming from... Given you feel gays are 'broken' in the same manner as people with autism, schizophrenia are you suggesting they all be shunned for being 'broken'?

Swap the term "broken" with "illness" if it makes you feel better.

Many studies have been done on the transgender crowd involving brain scans and those scans have shown a different brain makeup in those folks. Just like brain scans of folks with other mental illnesses show clear differences. Don't know if such scans have been done on homosexuals, but I think it would show the same thing as the transgender scans.

Well, Mr. Hitler - I hope if you ever have to deal with a broken individual in your family. If you do, I certainly hope you have the decency not to refer to them as such.

Homosexuals and transgender have been preaching for years that they're born that way and that it's not a choice. They should rejoice at any research that proves they're right. Too bad it shows they have an illness. Kind of a double edge sword. Flags probably make them feel better.
