Homosexuals are a target of ridicule, right? One of the "homosexuality is genetic" arguments is "why would anyone choose to be gay and have to go through that". Are you so much for the gay movement that you would knowingly make your child gay?

They are subject to ridicule because of ignorance and intolerance.

It just took me off guard that if people could have their way they would stop anyone from being homosexual. Being gay does play a significant part in someones life, just as much as being heterosexual. These are major factors that affect a persons personality and behavior in many ways. I don't think we really know the benefits that our culture is experiencing from a diversity of sexual orientations.

Yeah, so? I'm not saying that ridicule is right, but it's there wether you like it or not. Do you want to put a target on the forehead of your child? I wouldn't. Maybe forbidding gay donors is too extreme, but allowing the future parent the choice or informing them of the sexual orientation of the donor is certainly desireable. Can't you pick donors based on IQ, hair/eye color, etc? Why not sexual orientation?

That's ridiculous. Sex is supposed to be a private thing between two people, not some silly political or social statement. How in the flying hell does society benefit from who someone has sex with???

But in reality you don't have that choice :shrug: I was agreeing with Truby in her statement that people make it so that gays are ridiculed, etc... and without the ridculing they would have easier lives, etc... from the one's I know, they are nice and easy going... how many gay people smuggle drugs, rob banks, car jack folks, break into houses... etc??? I think the statistics are low for them if you want to categorize them as a subspecies or whatever :shrug:

Your sexual orientation is more than just who you sleep with. Relationships are complicated and there are different experiences gained and lost when two people are of the same sex than if they are of opposite sex. I was just saying that we don't fully know how these other relationships are affecting our culture, the diversity that they add may be a good thing.

I think the vast majority of Americans, including myself, would choose the child to grow up heterosexual. I'm just making the argument that this wouldn't be a clear cut 100% positive choice.

Exactly. Larry's parents are hetero and they gave birth to 3 heteros and a homo. Then you hear in People magazine about some gay guy who has bio children from before he got a boyfriend and they're NOT gay.

So there's no guarantee that your child will be heterosexual if you choose a hetero donor, and no guarantee they'll be homosexual if you choose a homo donor. The whole premise is silly.

The easiest life comes from conforming with the majority. Anyone who is different in any way will get ostracized in some fashion. It's a leftover survival instinct from our caveman days and completely normal and natural.

True, but it would significantly increase the odds. If we assume that homosexuality is genetic, it would be a recessive gene. Let's look at the possibilities (according to what I was taught of genetics):
gay dad, gay mom = 100% gay offspring
gay dad, straight mom (w/ recessive "homosexual gene") = 50% gay offspring
gay dad, straight mom (w/o gene) = 0% gay offspring
straight dad (w/ gene), gay mom = 50% gay offspring
straight dad (w/ gene), straight mom (w/ gene) = 25% gay offspring (sound familiar?)
straight dad (w/ gene), straight mom (w/o gene) = 0% gay offspring
straight dad (w/o gene), gay mom = 0% gay offspring

I think I slept through genetics.... My ex husband and I both have brown eyes and my oldest has green. How did that happen? I thought brown was dominant?
