I like him and have a lot of respect for his intelligence and business acumen, as far as I know it to be. I read his book "Kiss and Makeup" and he came across as quite honest, including frankness about his arrested development when it comes to women. I used to like Family Jewels for that same reason - it came across as honest.
One thing jumps out, though:
Some of you may remember that he dated Cher for a period in the 70s or whenever it was. In the book he discusses the relationship and says she was one of the most brilliant women he's ever known.
Now.....Gene must have a different criteria than I do when it comes to brilliance, because Cher is a big Twitter attention whore and presents herself as an ignorant dumbass. For example:

It's not only what she says that is astonishingly moronic, but her complete lack of spelling, punctuation, and grammar make her look truly illiterate. So how can Gene, whom I admire on some level, think so highly of this dumb bimbo??
I mean, I don't really care because I'm not emotionally invested in Gene, but I am interested in what exactly he saw in this person that I think is a blithering idiot. Does she have other qualities that he values more than intelligence and education? That seems hard to believe, given his history unless he's driven purely by sex and fame. Was she smarter before Twitter came along? Doubtful. Is Gene a blithering idiot as well, and I just saw his brilliant PR people at work? That could be.
Anyway, that's just something I'm thinking about right now and will have forgotten about by the time I get back from my shower, unless someone has something interesting to make it a discussion.
