Genesis 2 God made Woman

Genesis 2:18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

f. Genesis 2:20 Or the man
g. Genesis 2:21 Or took part of the man’s side
h. Genesis 2:22 Or part

A couple of things show up in these verses.

First....To me, it seems God spent time deciding how Woman would be made. Adam, the first biologist and botanist, must have taken quite some time naming all the plants and animals in the garden. In verse 18 I see God realizing that Adam had not mate. After Adam had completed his task, then God created woman.

Second... To me, it seems God made woman special. When God made man, He used the soil but He breathed a soul into man setting him apart from the animals and plants. He used man's parts to form woman. So the DNA of God's Breath was transferred to Woman when she was formed. This made her special, just like the breath of God, set man apart from the animals.

So if Adam sat gazing at both male and female animals and wondered why he didn't have a mate, and the creator already knew how to make male and female of other species without removing body parts, then why didn't the creator use that same ability with humans? At least we all have 24 ribs each and pigs have ribs too and geez, now I'm hungry....

I always understood these verses as a metaphor to denote the special relationship that God intends human male and female to have as opposed to the random mating scheme of the rest of the animal kingdom.

It's the DNA transfer that's important here. Or that's how I see it anyway.

If God had made women out of the dust as He did men, then we would be distinct creations.

Satan would have used that as a tool against marriage between a man and a woman.

Man and Woman are genetically one.... that's what makes this bond between men and women so important.
