Look my ass glows!
Minutes after Nixon resigned in disgrace over the Watergate scandal and flew into exile, Ford took office and famously declared: "Our long national nightmare is over."
RIP

President Gerald Ford was the only President never elected to office, either as President or Vice-President.

Not to sound disrespectful or anything, but what's the big hoopla about Ford? I mean, yeah, he was a President and all, but he was only VP for like 15 minutes after Agnew got in trouble, then became President for a couple of years because Nixon got in trouble.

Not exactly The People's Choice.

And for the life of me, I can't remember anything about him other than "Whip Inflation Now" and having two back-to-back assassination attempts. And pardoning Nixon. And he golfed. And Chevy Chase made fun of him on SNL.

Did he do anything besides that? Because they're all over him on the news and talk radio.

In the words of Congressional Quarterly, he "built a reputation for being solid, dependable and loyal-a man more comfortable carrying out the programs of others than in initiating things on his own."
He did really PO me when he granted Nixon a pardon for all crimes he committed as president. :nono:

Was he not "Republican" enough for ya?

I think the circumstances of his presidency make for an interesting chapter. Sort of just fell into it, and did a pretty good job of getting America back on track after difficult times. Like a 3rd string QB having to go into a game unexpectedly, taking the team on his shoulders and winning the thing.

R.I.P.

Habitat For Humanity?

Carter is the only one left of the Old School presidents. Once he's gone, all we'll have left is two modern day legacies and Clinton.
