Isn't it about that time of year when there are just tons of them everywhere?

We are now at the point we are ready but in no hurry. Well my hubby and kids are ready and I am in no hurry lol. I want to go the rescue route but still want a younger possibly even still puppy. I am either just missing all of them, the flood of unplanned litters have not started yet or the spay/neuter programs are starting to pay off. Maybe I am just being too picky.

There is Puppy Paws Rescue out of Huntington and on Petfinder you can search from babies to adults. Unfortunately puppies are the first to be adopted so there aren't many at the Humane Society or Tri County. The Humane Society of Charles County has or did have puppy Chiweenies and they had a litter of 2 day old puppies dropped off that a foster is taking care of. I'm sure they won't be adoptable for a while a Heinz 57 rottie lab beagle mix. I am looking for a pup also. You just have to check on a daily basis.

Update!

This is our new puppy, We get to bring him home on June 8th. Perfect because that is the boys first birthday and my hubby has been saying a boy needs a dog for quite a while. pup n mom.jpg pup.jpg

Mom is a Schnauzer/Carin terrier and Dad is a Basset hound. I jokingly referred to him as a designer breed but apparently it really is a thing to mix their breeds so it was not that funny of a joke. Who would of thought? I am curious now what the goal of mixing Schnauzer/Basset is.

Thank you, I am getting more and more excited by the day. From the looks of him so far he looks like he will be more the size of a basset and I have always had a soft spot in my heart for them. I got my first and only one on my 9th birthday. My brothers and I found him about two miles from the house and he had been shot up pretty bad. Not knowing any better we carried him till we were just about in sight of the house then used bologna to get him to follow us the rest of the way and swore he followed us the whole way. As an adult I know you need to be careful with an injured animal because they can snap but he was just as sweet as ever, Like he knew we were trying to help. My grandfather said it looked like he was a hunting dog and the owner decided to put him down mid hunt but we put up flyers any way and did all of the lost reports and tried to find his owners but no one claimed him. He was an awesome dog for many years.

They call me ... Sarcasmo
People intentionally mix breeds to breed out possible genetic issues. GSDs and Golden Retrievers are more more prone to hemangiosarcoma than other breeds, but it seems like a lot of cross breeding has to do with shedding and temperament.
