Ghosts In Southern Maryland

This isn't exactly Ghosts of Maryland material but pretty close location-wise.

We stayed at the Doubleday Inn about 10 years ago for a weekend. It is located on the Gettysburg Battlefield and included with our stay was a "Ghosts of Gettysburg" tour hosted by the Inn and not included with any of the other tours that were running at that time.

What was really interesting was the the owners of the Inn at the time (they were friends of a girl I was dating, which eventually sold the Inn to another couple some years later) had a brother that worked as a Park Service Ranger on the battlefield.

So, we got to go to a few "extra" places that most tourists can't go to, including the basement of the haunted house that was evidently needed to have an excorcism, the basement of the municiple building that flooded while being used as a hospital and some other structures and locations that only Park Service folks have access to.

We also went to the Cashtown Inn that day and the owners were very nice as well as informative and had a unique way of dealing with their "extra guests".

Both of these locations are included in the History Channel's "Ghosts of Gettysburg" program.

To top off the end of a rather fun day was a cocktail hour back at the Inn with Mr. Mark Nesbitt who has written many books on ghosts and in particular about the many hauntings of the Gettysburg area. He is a very friendly guy and I recommend his books, which have some very interesting stories he has compiled over the years.

I'm not sure if the current onwers do anything like that now. But it was fun and kinda spooky when we retired for the evening. :yikes:
