Gift of Caring

watercolor

yeah yeah
So I am new to this girl scout thing. Every year they do what is called the Gift of Caring during cookie season where people who do not want the physical box of cookies, still buy a box and put it in our Gift of Caring box. Then after the sales we give the cookies to that designated charity or group.

Any ideas of who I could call to select as our 'gift of caring'. Since there are so many girl scout troops in St Mary's alone- I would like to find out about new or lower visible charities or groups.

gotcha. I would think it would be better to buy a "phantom" box of cookies and donate the money..but maybe leah's house, or somewhere with children would appreciate a treat!

We used to donate to the USO (take a trip to the airport to deliver them personally) and to the Women's Center.

I think I would deffinitely look for something where kids are involved if it were me but I guess every one likes cookies. I know Mt. Zion church takes donations (I took a rather big one there this morning myself) they have a food pantry and they also have some sort of program that feeds elderly at the church but i do not know too much about that one.

There was a year we had a really bad snow storm. My troop donated cookies to all the SMECO workers that were out working hard to restore power.

My daughter's troop is donating the gift of caring cookies to sick children and their families at St. Jude's hospital and Children's hospital.

First off, I would recommend FISHER HOUSE
Home | Fisher House Foundation
This is a house where family of severely injured military stay while their loved one is going thru treatment/rehab, etc.
but another suggestion may be a Ronald McDonald House.
Is there a Ronald McDonald House anywhere around here? This is usually near a large hospital and families can stay at the house while their child is getting treated (usually for a very serious illness).

Those are my 2 suggestions since these places do a LOT of really good things for people and would certainly appreciate the donation. PLUS, if a Girl Scout would ask if I would donate a box of cookies to either organization, I would say SURE. I may not be as likely to donate to a church that I wasn't familiar with not knowing WHO they will go to, or what not. Just my 2 cents.
