Girl tumbled to death in washing machine...

FOXNews.com - 4-Year-Old Girl Killed in Washing Machine - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

A 4-year-old girl in Southern California has died after she climbed into a washing machine that began tumbling when her toddler brother hit its simple push-button start.

Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said Kayley Ishii apparently climbed into the front-loading washer Monday afternoon. Her 15-month-old brother either bumped or pushed the button to start the machine.

Amormino said the machine's controls were only 20 inches from the floor and the start switch was a simple push button. The girl was in the water-filled, tumbling machine for at least two minutes before her mother found her.

An autopsy Tuesday found Kayley died of blunt force trauma and the death was ruled accidental.

I don't have kids, but I'm always afraid my kitties are going to fall in and get hurt, stuck, or worse. Even closing the toilet lid is second nature now. Poor girl. I can't imagine how the parents feel.

NOT Politically Correct!!
Stupid parent...:smack:

Unsupervised kids also only need less than 30 seconds to run out the door and into traffic!!!

I'm not buying that bull#### story.

Think about it - picture it in your head. Better yet, go try to crawl in a front-load washing machine....and shut the door. You can't do it.

So the toddler brother must have shut the door - strong kid - then pushed the start button. And that is a little more far-fetched than I'm willing to swallow.

:jameo:

we need trigger locks on Washing Machines ..... they should be locked up in closets when not being used ....

We need common sense washer control!

Where was the mother while this was going on ....

I thought it was pretty odd that the article said the controls were only 20" off the ground. I thought the controls were at the top like any other washer. :eyebrow:

My mom has a front end loader and the controls are push button and up front: a toddler can reach them

There's another far-fetched facet of this little story. One would think a washing machine manufacturer wouldn't make their customer stoop way down to set the machine, but I suppose you never know.

Ok....they just did this story on Fox....they lived in an apartment...the mom had to hear the washer going within seconds of it starting

Mine is downstairs behind a closed door and I can hear it start no matter where I am in the house
