That's not always true. Our phones are dead but when people call, they get the answering machine. :shrug:

What ticks me off about these cordless phones is they use up all battery power "searching for base" so when power does come back on they are totally drained and useless for quite a while. Always keep a corded phone around,if not plugged in.

They're going up rapidly now as SMECO is reporting over 10,000 without power. I just tried calling my house and the answering machine didn't pick up so no power for me.
