I understand that there's some anxiety involved in water survival for some people that are less than confident in the water but I've never even heard of anyone training for water survival.

I think it's pretty neat that someone took the initiative to do that for their coworkers.

I've had two very good experiences at Great Mills pool recently. When my daughter was taking swim lessons she left her brand new $30 goggles there, and someone turned them in and we got them back the next week. And I lost $$ poolside. Someone turned it into the front desk :faint:

Not bad for a bunch of "ghetto" people hanging out there.

BTW, many of the kids using the pool are on swim teams. I don't consider them to be ghetto kids, it's actually pretty expensive for all the required gear, swimsuits, swim caps, back packs, kick boards, back packs etc that they require. A friends daughter is on the team. It costs her lots of $$ to enjoy the sport there. Just saying.

Really? It's a huge part of the training for USN/USMC Aviators and Aircrew and I would imagine USCG and USAF as well. I would expect many of the law enforcement agencies who regularly fly around and over large bodies of water would include it too. I know there are civilian companies who offer courses for folks who have to fly back and forth to oil platforms. Offshore Water Survival & HUET Occupational Safety Training

Thank you for explaining.

The bad part is when half the class fails when passing is a requirement for them to do their job. Then hubs has to schedule private training sessions to teach them so they can pass the next time. Great $$ but damn it makes for LONG work weeks.

Is he teaching military or civilian flight test engineers - who also have to pass the tests to fly.

I am extremely familliar with military aircraft water survival training and personally must attend it on a regular basis. I've just never heard of anyone training for it. Even of the people I've known that failed it, they just took some brief remedial refresher training on site and then attended the next available course to try again. Like I said, I think it's neat that someone took the initiative to offer some extra training.

How come the Great Mills pool instead of the base pool?

Now days I don't know. I have never asked. Could be both? I will ask him when he gets home.

He trains in both. So far this year it has been the base pool. Last year it was Great Mills.

He doesn't offer, it's part of his job descripion and gets paid for training people.

I'd rather have my kids - my half white, half Hispanic kids - swimming with a nice diverse set of patrons so there is a greater chance they'll grow up unburdened by even the lingering thoughts that still plague ME thanks to my not-so-unracist upbringing. I'm happy to say some of my kids' closest friends are not white, and our church is happily home to several biracial families (white/black, white/Latino, white/Asian, you name it) who everyone loves unconditionally, and I truly am glad my kids will get to go thru life without being angry at the diversity they see around them. It is what it is, get used to it, and stop polluting this discussion, thanks.
