Our puppy is on antibiotics due to a UTI (started them this afternoon). This morning though, she threw up all her breakfast, then did it a few more times. She's also running a temperature. Gave the antibiotic (2 pills) in cheese about an hour ago and yep, she just threw that up as well along with the little bit of chicken and rice. Am I going to have to force these pills down her so maybe she won't heave them back up? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Whats the antibiotics she's on? Some are more harsh on the lining of the stomach

Cephalexin, 500mg, 2 pills, 2 x's day

Cephalexin  for a UTI... Cephi is usually used for skin...

any who..... without anything on the pups tummy it will still upset the tummy.

how do you know she is running a temp? what was the temp?

is she keeping water down? was she vomiting before diagnosed with the UTI?

She vomited this morning, I though she just ate too fast. Then vomited a couple more times just stomach acid. She was going to the vet this a.m. anyways due to what I thought was a UTI. Vet diagnosed that and the fever. She said fever was 103.1 I believe. Water seems to be doing fine.

Surely you jest ...
I'm not sure about dogs, but I was always told not to mix any dairy with my antibiotics. Maybe its not a good idea to use cheese? Call the vet and ask, that would be the best way. Poor puppy, feel better soon. :(

Originally a suspected UTI. I didn't have an appointment so I was waiting for them to open. She ate about 6:15 this morning then vomited about an hour later. Appetite is always great. Ate as normal all day yesterday. Her UTI symptoms started yesterday afternoon.

Thank you. I gave her less than 1/4 cup of chicken & rice around 7 last night and she kept that down. No medicine though. This morning I gave her the meds as soon as I let her out, stayed down. They gave her a little food, stayed down, then a little more. I left around 7:10 and as of that time everything was good. Poor baby is starving. I feel bad for her.

She is doing much better now. On Monday she wouldn't even leave her bed to greet Daddy when he came home and now she's giving our Lab a run for her money. Started today mixing her regular food with the chicken and rice. She's keeping everything down.

I'm very happy to hear that she's doing better. I just saw this thread today, and have to agree with ICit that Cephalexin is usually given for skin infections. The Vet is a Doctor, so he or she knows best. The Pill Pockets are wonderful for giving medications, so I'd get them especially if she starts throwing up again, or she eats the cheese, leaving the pills behind. Hot Dogs are good too, but the Pockets, IMO are the best. Well wishes to your pup, and a hug to you for being a good pet parent. All dogs should be so lucky!
