What are your thoughts about the pompous A-hole throwing the Police Force under the bus over a handmade sign???

A PGCo cop friend of mine posted this last week. He's disgusted.

I also have to LEOs in my family. They are disgusted as well. I am, too.

I also have friends and family in LE,, but

We have rules and regulations with our Great Flag..

The flag should never have anything placed on it.

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose.

LE has no business putting a blue line on a USA Flag or using a USA Flag with a blue line on it to advertise for LEO's..

Bd, I understand you logic. However to validate his motive, he said the sign is racist, and makes “some” irritated. Now, who would that be?

I'm sure it's racist to lots of folks that dont like LE, would it be acceptable to remove the center strips and replace them with rainbow stripes or other colors?

How about flags that dont belong on public property go in the front yards of those that want them.

Exactly! Where is it written in US Code that altering our Nation's Flag, the symbol of freedom and unity, (irrespective of today's political environment), is acceptable? These whiny children are just looking for unearned recognition just for wearing a costume and badge. I saw a Sheriff patrol vehicle today. On the back rear window was a vinyl stenciled, In God We Trust with a blue line in between God and we, taking up the entire bottom left corner, (a quarter of the space), of the rear window. (Who in the hell authorized that!?) Saw a Solomon's rescue vehicle with a vinyl stenciled American Flag in white only covering the entire back window with a red line running through it. (Who in the hell authorized that!?) This stuff has got to stop. And let's not ever forgot what that "thin blue line" really means. It means that if something happens, such as a questionable shooting, treatment of a citizen, to one of their own, the wagons circle protecting them, even if absolutely guilty of malfeasance. The only flag, if they want to wear, and or authorized to wear, should only be the Nation's Flag in full color, or in subdued form, such as a soldier would wear on their uniform. These men and women are no more special than any other to warrant, and allow, such disrespect of our Nation's Flag. What it really is. Is that they are too god damned lazy to design something original. But it doesn't matter anyway. Because whatever it could/would be, it would still be divisive. Hogan is way wrong on this one. I have nothing but contempt, disdain, and disrespect, for that blue line flag, and for those that continence it. Same with the red line flag. Or any other alteration.

And yet Disney flies flags 24 hours a day with no illumination. They get away with it because they're not official flags, having only 45 stars.

If you think we're immune from Montgomery County madness down here you need to think again. Where do you think many of the rural pioneers moving here come from?

Dog parks and complaints about how watermen's boats look like are just the tip of the very large iceberg we're heading towards.

There is a VERY long tradition of doing what is objected to in this post. Here's one example from the Civil War:

Here's another:

And one more:

I get that some folks don't like it, but, as I said, there's a long tradition of doing this sort of "decorating."

I believe the illumination regulation was done away with a few years back..

Heres a little rain on your Parade.

The "FLAG CODE"
Previous to Flag Day, June 14, 1923 there were no federal or state regulations governing display of the United States Flag.

I have several that speak to my cavalry regiments' histories. Similar to this:

These not only added to the flag, they changed the shape.

You're not raining on my parade. My only point was that there is a long tradition of doing this.

WRT the Flag Code, no issues. But at the same time I also have no issues with clothing that has a stars and stripes pattern on it (as the law states that the flag pattern can be worn legally, so long as it is not an actual flag).

I also didn't have a problem when the military required me to wear a subdued US flag patch on my camo uniform. Having said that, I am aware that there were a number of folks who did (or objected to the flag being portrayed backwards as it went on the right arm).

Not trying to argue or tell you that you're wrong; only that we have done this forever and that we continue to do so even today. As you can see, I'm for "it." At the same time, I appreciate your position on the matter.

The flag is backwards on the right arm because the Flag is moving in the breeze hence always moving "Forward"

Yeah, we have US Code for the flag, but the only punitive section is #3 and only covers use in advertising but that section only applies to DC.

As to your last comment above, it isn't anything placed upon the US Flag, it is a different flag it is certainly similar but totally different.

Power with Control
I have no problem with modified flags that are done so to celebrate something good. Like police officers. I'm not blind to the issues, but the bad doesnt erase the good. Celebrate the good while seeking out and punishing the bad.
