Is this very expensive? Are there local organic farms? Anybody doing it?

I don't know if Morningstar Frams south of SMC is still doing CSA (with gas prices they may not be). You can get some local organic from the Funny Farm in Callaway and the good earth has local organic. Just remember that the road side stands and markets are not always local. I drilled the grocer at the one that was at the run down house on St. Andrews Church road, she said a lot was from California.

Go to So. Md, So Good (Tri county Council local foods campaign) or start a garden and quick.

A bit of topic but, someone just told me that there's a food co-op kind of thing you can sign up for at the Funny Farm in Callaway that gives you a 20, 35 or 50 dollars worth of local produce. I'm told it's a good deal.

As for the organic thing, it is about 30percent more expensive than regular old produce.

Raw foods are as much ad 120 percent more. I once got a jar of raw almond butter and it cost me 18 dollars. Raw honey is about 9 dollars.

Its called convrntional, not normal. You make it sounds so negative like people living an organic lifestyle are not normal.

Counting to 12 repeatedly is not normal, smearing peanut butter on :gossip: and having your dog lick it up is not normal. Keeping an old rotten potato and having conversations with it is not normal.

What is your definition of "going organic"? Is this a simple attempt to eat local, untreated foods?

Because if you are going to go 100% organic.....where are you gonna get your coffee from?
:coffee:

Almond butter isn't cheap to begin with but $18? :faint:

Where do you shop? Are there any good stores that carry a lot of organic/raw foods? It sure would be great if eating healthy cost less than eating unhealthy. I think I spend more on produce than I do on meat (and I mix organic and non-organic veggies because where I shop doesn't have a big selection of organics).

I wasn't putting organic down and that is why I put normal in quotes. I eat mostly organic foods.

Is something else wrong that you took it that way?

Walmart is carrying lots of organic and hromone free/free range chicken. I also heard that Walmart and Whole foods is somehow merging or Walmart will be carrying the brand but I can't confirm the source b/c it was word of mouth.

If you want fresh beef your best bet is Hollin Farm in VA find someone to go halvsies and buy a whole cow.

The Good Earth Natural Foods Co. In leonardtown is a great place to start. They have a bulk section too with raw nuts and dried fruits (coffee too). They carry local organic produce and so much more, get on the mailing list.

No. Being that I have shopped at Natural Foods stores since I was 15, being a vegetarian for 11 plus years and working at a natural foods store the term we use is Conventional. If you have ever shopped at a Whole Foods Market you will see that they label produce in 2 categories, Organic and Conventional. If I went into a grocery store and saw produce labeled "normal" I would want to know what was wrong with the other produce that is not labled normal. You see how I feel its negative? I'm not trying to start a fight it just has negative connotations.

Thanks so much! I'll have to check this place out sometime. I wish they would get a Whole Foods down here. I'll be up in Annapolis tomorrow so I'm going to stop in the one up there.

100% organic fair trade coffee is sold at SFW, the decaff is really good
Geek, the organic meat & produce is higher than the chemically altered food, but in the long run I think it will save you on doctor visits

I have found Giant, food lion & SFW carries a lot of organic products alot cheaper than the health food store in Leonardtown.

If you harbour ill will it has a negative impact in yourself. You may lose your appetite and good sleep.
