I'm confused. What does all that completely unrelated stuff have to do with the DNR crab enforcement story?

Good! Nail the SOB. He is stealing from us all.

I bet he paid for them. And could be fined a couple grand, it says:

On Sunday, officers inspected seven bushels of No. 2 crabs at Chic’s Seafood in the 300 block of Summit Avenue, Hagerstown. One bushel contained 35 undersized crabs and another bushel contained 24 undersized crabs.

Richard Carroll Herzog, 53, of Hagerstown faces a maximum fine of $2,000 if found guilty of both charges in Washington County District Court.

It just shows a leopard doesn't change his spots.
You live there you know.
The local DNR couldn't get a conviction because of his ties with Fritz, so they had to bring in the Feds.
He wont get fined this time either. Fritz will nolle pross or put on the stet doc.

Who..Lance? Half the article, that was ostensibly about DNR crab harvest enforcement, was about Lance Lumpkins personal legal encounters or various other completely unrelated matters. Page filler?....

I think Dog is saying that all the times the business was protected before by locals did no good as the violations keep happening; that's my guess anyhow

And recounting a litany of totally unrelated matters, some having nothing to with the business and only with individuals...what does that do for the report/story?

As for that Federal rockfish case, Robert Lumpkins (and others involved) paid a very large fine and went to jail for quite a while. Notexactly my idea of what it means to "get off easy"...

OK besides the leopard analogy, we have the apple doesn't fall far from the tree analogy.

Yes, probably page filler

..................but I have never been a Lumpkins fan, so it doesn't bother me when someone else trashes them.

Ah..now I think I understand. Yr saying that because Robert was convicted of rockfish fishing violations, that caused Lance to get involved in and busted for drugs.

Makes more sense now....

I don't know but I would be willing to bet he made a whole lot more off the illegal sales than what he paid in penalties. Seems like a good deal to me, if I knew I'd only pay a 100k fine and wouldn't go to jail I'd be tempted to sell a million dollars worth of dope

I think you are much brighter than that.
The wildlife violations are what bother me the most.
If he didn't put it out there it wouldn't be news

Yes Federal case, because Fritz wouldn't do anything.
hmmmmmmmmm why was that?

I know how many bushel are run through Golden Eye every week, the majority of them bought from independent waterman or other dealers, including a lot from NC. There has to be a level of trust between the buyer and the seller at several levels; it's never the case that anyone sorts through each and every bushel bought in. In spite of the volume involved though, I'm betting they'll figure out who caught and/or originally sold those bushels with the smalls.

uh..no. The Federal case was developed by the Feds over a fairly lengthy period of time and covering quite a number of waterman and businesses.

He's just making excuses for his buddy. While the crab charges could be a one off or even the fault of an inexperienced/lazy crew member somewhere along the line, those rockfish charges indicated a systematic attempt to game the system and violate the law. Personally I think people convicted of such crimes should lose all their rights with respect to fishing and hunting.

Smart boy. "Excuses" are easy when its simply a case of having facts trump lousy journalism and ignorant bystanders.

The former case, history, and the present day fine for small crabs that nobody laid eyes on except the person(s) that actually caught them, are related , how exactly? Furthermore, surely you can explain how the legal troubles the Lumpkins kid got in to, or the legal actions taken by Robert and other watermen against the state over the years, have squat to do with the DNR crab story. Thanks.

Or, we could just agree it was another typical broad-brush smear by a small person with a long reputation for doing little else.

I already know this much...the "crew" that brought in those undersized crabs is definitely getting a reaming....might be a firing involved too.

I would just think Bobby would be super careful about everything these days, but like you said, no way he can measure every crab coming in. That is up to the guys on the boat. Right?
