Gone With The Wind

That wasn't Mammy. It was Prissy.

I wish I new about the details of today's world in the way I know every line in GWTW. That is why I depend on you, and the rest of the guys to keep my mind alert, open, unbiased, and have the option to change my mind. I like the forum "think tank". Off topic, but wanted to say that.

If you know the lines of GWTW, then it isn't very far to understanding the larger themes of the movie, as well as the personalities and how they impact those themes, and applying them to the details of todays world.

We like to think of ourselves and our age as enlightened and educated and knowledgeable but, all the jealousies and rivalries and competing interests and personalities of the movie, in general, are the driving force behind the details of todays world. This is not to say we have exactly Scarletts and Rhetts today but, certainly recognizable variations on those themes along with Ashleigh and Mammy and Prissy and all of Scarletts would be suitors, Melonie and all the other characters. There are no super heroes or super villains in the movie and maybe that's the greatness of it. Though certainly caricatures and exaggerations of people we all know, nonetheless, those characters are VERY recognizable to this day.

The movie left out a LOT of what was in the book. Scarlett's other marriages and children.

No great feat of memory here. Just watched it the other night!

What happened to your epic comparisons; since I depend on the "think tank". Is it just an Academy Award winning movie, or is it a political statement that is 73 years old. I love this forum. That's all.

Yeah, I can't make any Thanksgiving connection to it other than the four day weekend where folks have time to watch it.

It is a fabulous movie about human nature. Certainly over simplified and stereotyped but, still great stuff.

:faint:

Sorry, just surprised to see a guy jump in here.....

Okay, that makes sense...four day weekend. Thanks.

.

Absolutely not a political statement. Just an award winning story about an epic era with epic characters. If I told someone to watch GWTW for a purpose outside entertainment, I would say to watch it for human nature purposes.

Scarlett has every weakness and every strength human beings can have. No one is smaller than her at times and no one is bigger than her at others. An absolute simpleton at times and incredibly complex at others.

And Mammy, not Rhett, knew her best. :buddies:
