Man... I love Asahi. Maybe I've never had good Japanese. The place in the Food Court in Waldorf is good too!

Asahi's Tempura is really greasy. Tempura is supposed to be lighter. The one in the food court.....I don't think I saw one item on their menu you'd see in Japan. Closest thing is their teriyaki chicken but even that isn't quite Japanese. Isn't their name something like Sarku? Even their name isn't Japanese, it's just gibberish.

So far the best Japanese foods that I had out in the general area were...

Daruma...it's not a restaurant but a Japanese grocery store in Bethesda but they serve some genuine Japanese dishes and lunch sets.

Another one was a more classy Japanese restaurant. A friend took us there and it was really good. A large selection of real Japanese cuisine. I don't remember the name but it was I think in Alexandria, VA.

Good indication the restaurant dish is not genuine Japanese....big communal table and the chef prepares the food at the table.

hhmmm...looks like the only real Japanese food that they have on the menu is most of the sushi... I guess I have to go to DC for the closest Japanese.

This sushi there is good... :ohwell: Sorry I couldn't help.

Okada is my fav for the Sushi/Sashimi, and they do a great job at the Hibachi tables. Place to be able to find true ethnic food would be within concentrated populations of those from that country. ,As with Italian food, Mexican, etc. the food tends to adjust to more Americanized tastes with the ethnic influence. Therefore, in looking around somd, you won't find large concentrations of Japanese, so chances of "true" Japanese are slim. Sounds like Bethesda place is your closest truer experience.

I miss Japanese food too! I lived in Yokosuka for 4 years and the food was probably my favorite part.

You cant even get real ramen here

And, I agree with the Asahi and Okada not being very authentic or impressive. My friends took me out one night and said they wanted japanese. Naturally, I was all for it. We get to Okada which was nothing more than men standing at hibachi grills.... I was all ...:eyebrow:

There is a Sushi-go-Round at the Verizon Center.

It's expensive, and still not quite right. I mean, the place is a Sushi-go-Round AND Tapas Restaurant. It's closer though to real Japanese Sushi, and they do have Yakitori, Tempura, etc.

Okada has the BEST sushi and Sashimi... Thick slices, very tasty, fresh and well prepared. Have never had a bad piece of sushi from there.

Dynamite roll ROCKS.. as does the White Tuna, Red Clam.. Squid Salad.. even their normal tuna is like butter..

SUCKS!!

Ate there once after watching people talk it up on here.

First time that I wanted to throw up at a table in a restaurant.

Was it because of the cockroaches (?) that were crawling all over the fish aquarium?
